Unfortunately we were lost finding the restaurant so we arrived almost 15 mins late. Initially, they tried to seat us in a shared table, and luckily, after asking, they moved.us to a more appropriate table where 4 friends could catch up properly. The food was good but during our first course the waiter removed the plates when one person was still eating and then brought her main course. WHILE she was still finishing her pasta. I live in Italy and have never had that happen before. It was very off-putting to be rushed through the food. There were other empty tables, so it wasn't as if he had other people waiting. We realised we were late and apologised, but it felt as if we were continually being punished for being lost. I will not return and this restaurant was recommended! They also add their tip on at 10%, which is another first for me in Italy and definitely not deserved. in...
Read moreTaverna di Cecco is such a wonderful and cozy restaurant just a wee bit off the beaten path. Definitely should make reservations, but if you are flying by the seat of your pants, then get to the restaurant right at opening time and you may be lucky enough to snag a table. It's well worth it! Another theme is that they are terrifically friendly and are happy to describe the menu. If you like funghi and tartufo (truffles), this is the place for you! The crostone al tartufo was delightful, the pasta with porcini (local favorite) were delicious as was the pasta with the local pork. Of course we kept going and had a lovely chicken and porcini (boconccini di pollo con porcini). Finished with vin Santo and limoncello. Fantastic and we...
Read moreBest food during our two week trip throughout Tuscany and Rome. It was so good that we revisited the following night and some how was even better. The staff treated us like family and even accommodated American’s with numerous questions. The musts: Pici Cacio e Pepe, Spaghetti alla Carbonara, Tortellini Cece, and my favorite was an off menu dish Pici with white sauce e Tartufo. I literally shed a tear because the sauce & truffles were so good. I had truffles 5 previous times on the trip, all were bland and not fresh, while this brought back my love for the dish. On the second we had a couple filet dishes and Carpaccio, all were good. Dessert was the black & white ice cream and then Apéritifs. If you are in Siena, it is...
