Gelateria Belfiore Gelato & Cioccolato — Restaurant in Syracuse

I’ve come to the conclusion that there are no bad gelaterie in Sicily, at least ones that are still in business. However, some are better than others. Belfiore is in that category. It doesn’t overwhelm you with a huge selection of flavours, but those on offer are excellent. I’m particularly fond of the cannella e zenzero (cinnamon and ginger), and the torrone is superb. My benchmark for gelaterie is pistachio, and this passes with flying colours. And the most surprising thing is how low the prices are compared to other gelaterie in the area, especially one so close to Ortigia. Our boat tour guide recommended we visit Gelateria Belfiore for dessert and it did not disappoint! The gelato was great (we tried the pistachio, ricotta, Santo Domingo, and gianduia). There are a few covered tables with a view of the bridges to Ortigia outside the store where you can sit and eat. The absolute BEST! Add in an owner who is fabulous and you have THE place to go for authentic gelato. The rice & raspberry was beyond description... perfection. As another reviewer stated, the Diana (salted pistachio) is divine. I truly don't think these can be topped. Add in prices that are so good compared to some of the overhyped gelaterias further into the old city. Do yourself a favour and walk the couple of extra minutes to this place ... you will be so...
