Some of Siracusa's best kept secrets are hidden away in side streets, but they should also not be kept secret, as I'm sure their owners would agree. Mrs Robinson's is in a side street off the beginning of Corso Gelone, not far from the Pi statue, which seems appropriate because they sell fantastic pies, or large slices thereof. Apart from its fresh culinary delights, what sets this apart from most other bars is its atmosphere. Imagine, if you can, an old Starbucks, with comfy sofas, a quiet place to plug in your laptop and work, and with some great music playing in background. Only this has far better coffee, with a range of dairy alternatives, and superb food. The slices of cake are substantial – I had a delicious apricot and almond one for a late breakfast. There was also a profiterole cheesecake, and while it may not have been death by chocolate, it looked like a willing accomplice. And the lunch menu looks amazing and freshly prepared. I do however have to do the community service and say that it transpired that there's lard in their bread, meaning that the dishes marked in the menu as vegetarian are in fact not vegetarian. We had a slight disagreement with a chef whether lard is vegetarian which I think is the reason for the confusion but I think it's very clear that if you must kill an animal to extract their tissue, what you get is not vegetarian.
