CANTINA SICILIANA — Restaurant in Trapani

Please avoid Cantina Siciliana if you are a tourist. The food is decent (however overrated judging by other reviews) but you will find far better without the horrible service. It’s clear that there is preferential treatment for locals here, and unfortunately it completely ruined our experience. A table of locals arrived after we had already ordered and received our starter. We then waited for over half an hour to get the second course while they received both their starters and mains before us. It was clear they were expecting to be pushed ahead of other customers and sadly the staff were only too happy to pander to them. We ordered a bottle of wine, which was not available but was replaced with an alternative without any explanation, nor did the waitress even bother to ask us to taste the wine, rather she just poured and walked away. As the meal progressed we became more and more miffed - table next to us proceeded to get dessert. We asked for a dessert menu and waited for another ten minutes before asking again and finally receiving it. The last offence was waiting by the door to pay for what seemed like an age, only to Have the local table rudely pass in front of us to pay first.. I usually don't write reviews, especially bad ones, but this one I had to because, honestly, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. We ordered grilled and fried calamari. Both portions were really small. Fried calamari was okay-ish, but didnt taste fresh even though we were told they were. Grilled calamari was chewy, undercooked and lacked taste. No side dishes are included in the price, which is fine because we have been informed prior, however the issue is that you dont have any side dishes to choose from besides salads and vegetables. As a side dish (recommended by the waiter) we ordered the mixed vegetables with egg plant, which again was a small portion and cold (which, even though it might be served like this, is not okay for the price of 11 euro). In the end, we also couldnt pay with a card because the POS machine had a bad connection. The only positive I could find is that the atmosphere inside was nice and the waiter was polite...

Siamo entrati, oggi a pranzo, in quanto, incuriositi dalla bella impressione televisiva, avevamo prenotato... altrimenti, visto già da fuori, saremmo andati altrove! Ci fanno accomodare in una sala PIENA di cose che nelle altre recensioni definiscono “tradizione”, ma era solo un accumulo di oggetti di vecchia data che portano al locale un’aria cupa e polverosa (dato che si vedeva chiaramente che non venissero puliti da chissà quanto)! Mentre consultiamo i menù, lo chef, che ha passato la sua giornata a prendere ordini invece di cucinare, evidentemente perché il personale di sala non era all’altezza della gestione (E SI VEDEVA), ci comunica che mancava il pane nero citato in vari piatti del menù per causa ferie del panificio... successivamente arriva al tavolo un cesto di pane riscaldato in forno e, per questo, annerito! Ordiniamo 2 cous-cous e una busiata con pesto trapanese. Un ragazzo, senza arte né parte e senza neppure dire “buongiorno” ci chiede se vogliamo dell’acqua che poi lascia sul tavolo senza proferire parola con noi che lo guardavamo! Arrivano i 2 COUSCOUS, è stato chiaramente usato il precotto, contrariamente a quello che mostra in TV, e non ci avrei visto nulla di male, SE FOSSE STATO FATTO BENE! Intanto noi con il piatto, fermi, perché c’è stato un ritardo con il brodo e non era ancora arrivato il piatto di busiate con pesto trapanese che è arrivato in un TERZO MOMENTO! Le busiate erano davvero improponibili, bianche, con 1-2 cucchiai di pesto poggiato sopra e due fette di melanzane enormi, doppie e stracolme di olio di frittura! Chiediamo cortesemente di poter avere delle busiate MANTECATE nel pesto trapanese, e dopo averci detto che non sono soliti a farlo perché è un pesto crudo, portano il piatto in cucina per dargli una mezza girata in una padella ancora fredda e ci presentano la pasta ributtata nel piatto sporco di prima! Piatto che era difficile anche guardare, ci siamo limitati all’assaggio e la busiate non teneva affatto la cottura perché era altamente scotta e molla all’esterno e CRUDA all’interno! Per tornare al cous cous, il pesce era stato pulito davvero male perché abbiamo trovato squame e spine ad ogni boccone! I bagni, piccoli e davvero sporchi, con tanto di gruppo di mosche che gira attorno alla tazza!

Il tutto condito dalla assoluta maleducazione dello chef che vedendo la nostra esperienza non si è nemmeno permesso di scusarsi o di chiedere se ci fossero problemi. Ah, ma il piatto di pasta non lo ha fatto pagare.

Vorrei poter dire che se lo Chef avesse fatto il suo mestiere e non il capo sala, sarebbe stato diverso dati i molteplici titoli che abbiamo visto appesi a suo nome, ma questo non possiamo dirlo perché era impegnato a ricoprire un ruolo che non era il suo.
