Caffe bar Stella Polare is a well-known historical place where the citizens have their meeting place. An exceptionally nice and pleasant place to hang out and talk. The birth of Caffè Stella Polare dates back to 1865. The unmistakable Viennese taste, with its classic decorations of stuccoes and mirrors, characterized by a place attended mainly by merchants of German origin and by many writers and artists both from Trieste and abroad. The visitors was Umberto Saba, his daughter Linuccia, Guido Voghera, Virgilio Giotti and James Joyce a teacher ( that time ) at the nearby Berlitz School, and many more….. Now, besides the traditional bar and cafeteria service, you can relax at lunch. For those who want a bit quiet, there is a comfortable and silent Tea Room available. In the inner room, in addition to finding a rich pastry department, a pictorial or photographic exhibition is permanently set up which hosts a different artist every two weeks. Read moreWe arrived at the Caffe to order breakfast. Initially, only the two waiters were present who were friendly and helpful. However, at some point the owner(?) arrived behind the counter and started to speak exclusively Italian. Since we are not native we tried to use our bits and piece of Italian to navigate through the nicely looking pastries. That did not work out so we tried to point out the pastries we would like to have but then the owner yelled at us: “Oh you dont know the name?” (In italian) and then he continued in italian, listing super sassy all the pastries, mocking us and when we left he yelled “ciao” at us. Again the waiters were nice but the apparent owner is unfriendly, rude and not worth spending your money here. Trieste has so many nice cafes to offer think twice...
Read moreCompletely surprised by rude behaviour from waitress who firstly was giving me strange looks while I was ordering in Italian, since I’m foreigner but living in Trieste for 5 years. Once our order came, pastry “briosce” that I was eating had fly inside the cream. We took it to the waitress and she said that it just probably fell on the cream while I was eating it! But it was inside the briosce ‘cause I’ve noticed it after taking more bites… she didn’t even apologised for inconvenience, or offered to give us another briosce on the house or at least to not pay for this briosce at the end. We had to pay, and I left a half briosce on the table… Not cool at all. If you’re foreigner or tourist in Trieste, my advice is not...
