My experience at La Lamia was outstanding. Usually when I am traveling, I never eat in the same place, because I like to try new restaurants. In this case I made an exception because La Lamia exceeded my expectations.
The first day I had an amazing local salad with octopus that was amazing. I had to admit that this dish was the one that made me come back the next day. All the products had a fresh taste, in a perfect harmony with each other; it was an explosion of flavors in my mouth. For main course I had the local pasta called ‘fileja’ with sea food. Again, all the products were so fresh and in a perfect proportion, that I got the chance to try all the local sea food combined with a local pasta that caught all the flavors from the other side of the ingredients.
The second day, for appetizer I had the red onion-tasting, a proud star from the city. I was surprised with all the ways that this onion can be used, and I had them in my plate to try them. Definitely it’s a must for those who like to try local flavors! For the first course I had gnocchi with ragú sauce and octopus. I loved this dish because it combines two of the classics from the Italian cuisine: ragú and gnocchi; but it came with the twist of the octopus to give it that touch of different. For the main I had an amazing tuna steak, that was super tasty and fresh. I like the sauce that it came with (made of different types of citrus), along with a fresh salad. The presentation of the dish was delicate and really soft in the mouth.
I’d like to also extend my gratitude to the staff. All of them were fully aware and knowledgeable of what they were serving and the ingredients of the receipts/drinks. The manager was extremely polite at all times and checked on me several times during both evenings I’ve been in the restaurant.
I’d like to also extend my congratulations to the chefs, I went to the kitchen so say Hi to them, and they were super friendly and kind.
A small note that I like to mention is, when I went to say Hi to the chefs in the kitchen, I was surprised of the high level of cleanliness and order that I saw, definitely a place that I trust and highly recommend.
Thanks to all the staff...
Read moreI have only posted a handful of 5-star reviews, but this place earned it. We tried calling as other reviewers recommended making reservations, and they weren't wrong. We couldn't get through by phone, so I walked over right when they opened at 7 pm and made a reservation for 8:15. We went for a walk and came back on time. They were very busy- 3 or 4 parties were waiting to be seated. People showed up looking for a table but they were turned away without a reservation. It took about 25-30 minutes before the table was ready but I didn't mind the wait- they had a man with acoustic guitar singing, entertaining the patrons. We were shown to our table and the server brought menus and the wine list. We ordered a bottle of the house red, it was fantastic. We started with the eggplant rolls with mint-ricotta and sweet & sour Tropea onions, and fresh oysters on the half shell. The presentation was amazing and the food was fresh and very well-prepared. The mint in the eggplant rolls was an incredible touch to lighten the ricotta filling. The onions were sweet and jammy. For our pasta course, we ordered the Ravioli filled with Buffalo Mozzarella in fresh tomatoes and basil, and the carbonara. The ravioli was surprisingly light and the carbonara was rich and tasty with the pasta perfectly cooked. The portion sizes were perfect and not too filling. For our Mains, we ordered the grilled octopus and the fish of the day, although the type of fish escapes me. The fish was light and flaky and the grilled skin was especially tasty. The octopus was lightly charred and not rubbery in the slightest, it was delicate and delicious, some of the best I have ever tried. I'm not sure if they serve dessert but we were perfectly satisfied and didn't want to overdo it. If you enjoy local, regional and seasonal dishes expertly prepared, and would like to have a great dining experience, do yourself a favour and reserve a table. You won't be...
Read moreI recently visited this restaurant and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. Although the location was lovely, the service was lacking. It took 30 minutes before we were able to order drinks and food, and when we finally did, we were informed that the dishes we wanted were not available. Our first course, a shared tartar, was decent, but overpriced for the quality and amount. We then waited for an hour for our main course, during which our drinks were not refilled. The pasta with clams lacked taste and the amount was very small, as was the pasta with seafood. It was as if we were served larger tapas dishes instead of an actual main course. Despite complaining, nothing was taken off the bill, although we were offered a free alcoholic beverage. Although the manager apologized for the shortcomings, it doesn't excuse the slow and lacking service, the lack of dishes we were interested in and the amount of food. All in all, I give it three stars - two for the location and one for the alcoholic beverage and...
