Taverna Antica Grotta — Restaurant in Tropea

Atmosphere is nice it’s quiet which we liked. The service is terrible. It took forever to get a waiter to our table and then to get our wine. The food came out slowly but not so bad. It kind of felt like when we got there we were ignored but we saw almost everyone there were not even eating probably waiting for the server or their food to come out so I don’t think it was just us. The food was subpar. My husband got a pasta dish that was amazing and the seafood app was great. I got the mussels and they were HORRIBLE. I’m American but I’m from NY and I’m first generation Italian so I have a pretty good palate and these were gross. Like dirty water no flavor. We ended up going to another restaurant where we had mussels that were better just so I could eat some dinner. You might get lucky with some dishes but I would not...

Posto veramente caratteristico e posizionato bene, peccato che devo attribuire solo 2 stelle totali. Appena arrivati visto il caldo chiediamo se esiste possibilità di stare dentro con l aria condizionata, ma la richiesta è stata negata in modo non proprio cortese. Non appena seduti i ragazzi erano in difficoltà e spesso hanno dimenticato di portarci piccole cose(piatti, coca cola, ecc), ma può capitare. L antipasto era scarno e con prodotti piuttosto dozzinali (lo valuto in base alla mia personale esperienza da calabrese che abita a Roma) pagato 16€. I primi...... il mio(pasta con alici e peperoncino) mi ha deluso le alici sott'olio si sentivano, quelle del supermercato per intenderci,(infatti quando ho chiesto un piatto di alici fritte mi hanno detto che non le avevano), e il risotto della mia amica era troppo asciutto, la pasta in bianco della bambina l abbiamo dovuta condire.noi con olio e parmigiano è arrivata solo scolata! Il filetto buono ma 70€ al Kg mi sembra veramente un esagerazione! Ultima cosa, ma non ultima perché la detesto, ho sentito più volte che i ragazzi venivano rimproverati davanti i clienti, il servizio è stato pessimo, questo è vero, ma i feedback ai dipendenti si danno in privato. Ciliegina sulla torta lo scontrino del conto non aveva le voci ma solo un totalone con su scritto primi piatti e secondi piatti palesemente casuale. Conclusione: Il posto andrà benissimo per i turisti stranieri di cui Tropea è piena ma chi vuole mangiare un buon cibo calabrese vada...

We ordered an Insalata Tropeana, but there seemed to be some confusion: at first a simple tomato and onion salad was brought, and then another bowl, closer to what the menu described. On the bill it appeared as two salads, although only one had been ordered, which was a bit awkward to clarify.
