Norman — Restaurant in Turin

Norman is an establishment in the city of Turin and it has recently undergone a drastic and much needed refurbishment though some of it appears to be still ongoing (will not affect your experience as it is next door). Previous reviews mentioned a buffet but if you are visiting for an apericena this is no longer available and you will instead select from a menu out of three choices, a fairly basic one, a medium (which seems what everyone goes for) and a more expensive selection. In our visit we went, unsurprisingly, for the middle choice which consisted of a large plate with a selection of what could really be more suitably described as amuse bouche. The selection is a bit of a fusion with some example of local cuisine (e.g. chopped raw fassone meat, vitello tonnato etc) and some more exotic global bits. Some bits are more flavoursome than others but overall they would benefit from some oomph in the taste part as a lot of attention is paid on the presentation instead. All goes down well however with the cocktail which is included in the price and you can enjoy a relaxing time in convivial, comfortable and elegant surroundings. Service is very attentive and courteous. Esperienza negativa, peccato! Essere un locale storico (conosciuto dai tempi del liceo) non basta per fare un ottimo locale. Una stella solo per la posizione in cui si trova. Tavolo per 4, prenotato 3 gg prima, per apertivo h 19.00 iniziamo che ci fanno aspettare per accomodarci eppure il locale a quell'ora non è pieno...boh! Al piano di sopra un bel tavolo ben apparecchiato vicino agli addobbi natalizi e altri tavolini al fondo della stanza di una tristezza infinita. Ovviamente ci hanno fatto accomdare al fondo in castigo. Si ordina dal menu proposto apertivo ROYAL e la cameriera informa che si deve prenotare perché è quasi una cena. Scrivetelo!! Perché sul menu ed in nessun altro posto c'è scritto!! Si opta per il FINGER FOOD che a detta dell'operatore di cibo ce n'è in abbondanza (6 portate). Sappiamo bene che trattasi di aperirivo! Quindi ordiniamo 4 finger food di cui uno vegano. Arrivano i piatti ma ne manca uno ed il piatto vegano aveva solo 4 portate. Aspettiamo il quarto piatto che arriva dopo altri 15 min e riferisco alla cameriera che il piatto vegano non è completo. La ragazza si consulta con il cuoco e viene aggiunta un'altra portata vegana abbondante, dichiarata per ben 3 volte compresa nel prezzo per scusarsi (tra l'altro la comanda era pure errata)!! Lo standard della mise en plase non corrisponde con lo standard del locale i piatti erano spaiati, 3 uguali ed uno diverso (ma chiudiamo un occhio). Vogliamo mangiare altro in aggiunta alla proposta del finger food perché assolutamente non veritiera l'affermazione del cameriera che era abbondante. Alle h 19.45 tentiamo di mangiare altro, piadina? Terminata. Tramezzino? Terminato. Dolcino? C'è rimasto poco. Al che abbiamo esternato la nostra perplessità sul fatto che per un tavolo regolarmente prenotato alle h 19, alle richieste di cose semplici e facili come piadina e tramezzino come da menu, ci abbiamo detto che siccome nel pomeriggio c'era stata tanta gente, noi dovevamo mangiare gli avanzi se eravamo fortunati. Non lo siamo stati perché un locale di questa portata non aveva cibo sufficiente....ripeto alle h 19 .45...non stiamo parlando delle h 22 o in chiusura. Ciliegina sulla torta al momento di pagare, hanno conteggiato anche la portata "rattoppo". Si sono sbagliati.. .ma guarda un po'!! Quindi una recensione negativa su tutti i fronti. Non...
