Family-run restaurant that doubles up as grocery store selling wine, olive oil, amaro, pasta, cheese, cold cuts, etc.. all from Calabria, the toe of Italy. The restaurant dishes feature mostly the same ingredients you can find in the store. The menu is extensive, and also feature special dishes that are available only when certain ingredients are available.
I had the opportunity to try several dishes here, and they were all great: buffalo mozzarella with basil and tomatoes; gnocchetti di Gragnano with ricotta and pistachio pesto; paccheri with prawns; stocco (codfish) with potatoes; grilled spicy Calabrian sausage; chocolate truffle.
I also discovered that Calabria produces a vast array of excellent amari, like Rupes and Jefferson, and many more.
What I liked the most is the friendly atmosphere and how welcome the staff at Rosso Piccante are. This is a great place to catch up with friends and family, for a birthday celebration, or for a graduation party.
As the space is limited, and the restaurant is popular and often used for family reunions and various celebrations, booking is recommended.

Read moreWe came here after being turned away from another nearby restaurant because one of our group was vegan and they refused to cook anything for her. We stumbled across Rosso Piccante around the corner. I asked if a vegan pasta was possible and they immediately said yes.
We followed was a lovely, simple but tasty meal served in a brilliantly lively atmosphere. Absolutely somewhere locals come to eat. We had pasta dishes (all delicious) and some vegetables. It's not fresh handmade pasta or fancy plates, but the food is incredibly tasty (we love chilli!) and the service is so friendly and welcoming. The prices are also extremely reasonable. The Torinese compared to these lovely Calabrians lose! We are so grateful to have found such a hospitable team.

Service was really good, very friendly and helpful. the food was really good as well. we had four different dishes and all of them were 5 stars. you don‘t have as many choices as a vegetarian but the Paccheri were 10/10. also the mixed platter and the pickled veggies were really good! all in all I would definitely go back. if you are in Turin, do yourself a favour and go there! staff 10/10 food 10/10 atmosphere 10/10 you can also buy fresh pasta and other food...
