Casamare — Restaurant in Unione dei comuni della Versilia

I visited this restaurant and at first the food was really delicious. I even came back the next day with my sister just so she could try the donuts. We weren’t hungry and only wanted dessert, but when we sat down and told the waitress, she said we couldn’t stay at a table if we only ordered dessert, even though the restaurant was empty and a lot of free tables!

We ordered the donuts anyway, but while waiting, the staff told us again that we couldn’t sit and made us stand inside near the kitchen. The waitress was very rude, and when I mentioned that her attitude was inappropriate, she simply said ‘that’s fine.’ Then, one of the waiters raised his voice at me and said, ‘Do you want the order or leave!’ At that point, I decided to walk out and never return.

Very nice location and decor. Staff were attentive, but we were disappointed that our waiter refused what felt like a very reasonable request for a substitution (sub shrimp tartar with a grilled shrimp as an accompaniment to a pasta dish). They could have at least checked with the kitchen. The seasonal vegetables in the "mixed fried fish and it’s seasonal vegetables" secondi were just deep fried strips of zucchini and carrot peels, and the fish actually shrimp, calamari and squid - a rather unpleasant surprise that means the entire plate is deep fried and heavily salted bits, with neither actual fish or fresh vegetables. The spaghetti with baby clams and parsely was, however, quite tasty. A disappointing experience at what does seem to be an otherwise...

I don’t know why other reviewers complained about service. In my experience, everyone was super nice. The place also had a lovely atmosphere and the food was presented very well. Flavours, however, I found somewhat lacking. Nothing tasted bad per se, and the ingredients were definitely fresh, but two out of three dishes I ordered were too bland for my taste.
