A Carnivore's Dream: A 2kg Steak That Was Simply Extraordinary For those who worship at the altar of perfectly cooked meat. The centerpiece of this meaty magnum opus? A colossal 2-kilogram Bistecca alla Fiorentina that was, without exaggeration, amazing. The restaurant, a classic Roman-style trattoria with a reputation that precedes it, presented the raw, magnificent cut of Chianina beef tableside before its fiery transformation. The sheer size of the steak was a spectacle in itself, a testament to the quality of the establishment and its commitment to sourcing exceptional produce. Brought to the table sizzling and artfully carved, the aroma alone was intoxicating – a rich, primal scent of high-quality beef seared to perfection over a wood fire. The crust was a masterclass in texture, a deep, savory char that gave way to a stunningly ruby-red interior, cooked to a flawless medium-rare. Each slice was a revelation. The meat was incredibly tender, imbued with a profound, beefy flavor that spoke of its quality and expert aging. A simple dressing of high-quality olive oil and a sprinkle of coarse sea salt was all that was needed to elevate the taste to celestial heights. The bone, a prize in itself, offered morsels of intensely flavored meat that were fought over with joyous savagery. Accompanied by simple yet perfectly executed side dishes – crisp, rosemary-roasted potatoes and sautéed spinach with garlic – the steak remained the undisputed star...
Read moreDisappointing is an understatement. Context: Family of 8 adults traveling from NYC. Foodies and cooks comprised our group.
Cons: (first because they're ghastly and overwhelming) Tagliatelle ai funghi: Inedible and slimy. Pasta was overcooked. Mushrooms were CANNED. Correct, from a can. How can you have a restaurant in Italy that uses canned mushrooms? Shocking. -Parmigiano, Olive Oil, Balsamic: Placed on the table in PACKETS. Not fresh, not even in cheap bottles. They were in packets like they were sugar packets for your coffee. Astonishing and shameful. In the beautiful town of Pienza and you're serving parmigiano in packets? You should be ashamed. -Speed of dinner: We were in and out in 50 minutes. The length of dinner and the pace at which food comes out says alot for a restaurant. We didn't want to spend another minute there, so thankful it was quick, but it should be said on how quick the food came out. -Other than the steak, the food was fine. Nothing to write home about and nothing to recommend.
Pros: Servers were wonderful, accommodating, and very friendly. The Bistecca alla Fiorentina was very good. We had 5 people split it and it was definitely enough for 6-7 people. Portion was very generous and the cook was perfectly medium rare.
Unfortunately, that's where the pros end. I recommend visiting Pienza as it's beautiful and quaint, but I do not recommend that you come here as it will put a sour taste in your...
Read moreA restaurant (that used to be good) that's is not respecting the client. It is a tourist restaurant and they don't care about the quality of what they cook. Worst restaurant (regarding food quality) that I have tried in 10 weeks in Toscana (2 restaurants a day). I think the restaurant used to be good, maybe the management changed
Pasta are cheap and overcooked : the same you find in supermarket. Calico y pepe is horrible. Very cheap cheese, no pepe. Looks like you where you put cheese on top of your pasta at home to favor it. I couldn't finish it. So sad because calcio y pepe is my favorite Italian dish.
My wife had a plate with truffle that's doesn't smell truffle. You can see it in the plate but it smells nothing (I could even taste her plate with no trouble whereas I hate truffle taste). It was baffling' They don't care of what they do, what they serve. Run away, they don't deserve your...
