Pienza is a small city in Tuscany with pedestrian-only streets filled with restaurants and tourist shops. It's basically a town for tourists in August, since most Italians are on vacation.
I found Pieza a bit gross. The town smelled of cigarette smoke and Pecorino cheese, not a great combination. We arrived just shy of 1pm and knew we had to eat lunch quickly, because most places close at 2pm for a 2 hour siesta. We found this restaurant with many empty outdoor tables and decided to eat here. Our party of 7 settled into 2 tables and ordered a variety of items. Our waiter was attentive but the food wasn't great.
The carbonara pasta I ordered made me sick - it was too eggy and I didn't finish it, which was fine as I really got sick on the way back to our hotel.
The others in our party ordered the cheese platter which was a nice way to taste the cheeses of the area; the Florentine steak which was large enough for 4 people (but shared by 2), the Caesar salad which had a store-bought dressing and another pasta dish which was only ok. Our bill was almost $300USD which I thought was...

The food was simply fantastic and no complaints whatsoever. The service was prompt, though curt (I’ll probably attribute this to cultural gaps).
Their charges are more like a fine print and take advantage of people who don’t know the native usage of language. Their cover charge per person is the most we’ve paid anywhere at €3 per head. What was surprising was that they charged the same €3 per head for two babies under 2 who didn’t even eat or use any cutlery / crockery (never anywhere in Italy during our trip were we charged Coperto for babies).
Tap water (they'll call it filtered, but still tap) was €2 which wasn’t quite clear on the menu. Made it seem like bottled water, which isn’t the case. I would’ve happily paid more for a sealed bottle of water as opposed to tap.
Updated (above): You'll notice with their arrogant responses to other reviews; which will water down all their hard-work and will instead only highlight their arrogance....
Read moreOn a rainy night in pienza we were looking for a warm inviting place for dinner. We bumped into Sperone nudo and decided to try it. Usally we research places to eat and regret it when we don’t. Not today. We walked in and were warmly greeted and seated, The interior is a nice blend of the old stone walls of the building and some cool art. our table was by a replica of manet’s bar at the folies bergere (one of my favorite paintings ). There is a nice jazz soundtrack playing and I love jazz so the atmosphere could not be better. They have an excellent wine list so one more plus. We ordered the zucchini flowers, the ragú and the carbonara. All were perfectly prepared and plenty of food. Great spot for a meal in pienza. The service...
