Cicchetteria Ristorante Casa Fortuna — Restaurant in Venice

As it was piddling down all day, we stayed away from the island of Venice and focused on Mestre to get a flavour of the “real” Italy, away from the heaving tourist traps. Our taxi driver recommended this place, telling us it served mainly local dishes. We popped in and booked. Two of the staff spoke better English than we do Italian so no problems. It was a good job we did book, as it’s popular with the locals. Outside and downstairs by the bar it’s buzzing, loud and busy. The restaurant proper is upstairs. Nicely intimate, we had a window seat and were served promptly. The menu was good, mainly seafood, with each dish complemented by several wine recommendations. We had a bottle of white between us and two glasses of Prosecco each, a main each (I had pasta with shellfish) and shared a second main of fried fish/shellfish. The wines were good, as was the food. BRAVO!! In the neverending Italian Pastaland, we found this place in "Mestre di Venice"

Absolutely wonderful and quiet atmosphere between two houses with a terrace under the maybe worlds largest Terrrace Shade with lights. No hassle, no congestion. Just a genuine atmospheric place!!!

For food, We took what the really good Albanian origin waiter proposed...

And it became just a superclass dinner with flawless Local white wine, "antipasto fritte di mare" for starters.

For the mains "We have this for today outside the menu", which was a superb large turbot prepared next to our table with all the sides.

Tasty, nice food where even the Italian "Welcome" bread with fills was tasty and salty enough.

Premetto che sono molto selettiva e pignola in fatto di cibo, questo locale è stata una deliziosa scoperta, ho cenato ieri sera con mia figlia, ci ha accolto uno dei titolari,molto cordiale e disponibile,accompagnandoci al tavolo e fatte accomodare , ci ha lasciate nelle mani di un cameriere, molto attento alle esigenze del cliente, cordiale professionale e simpatico (un sorriso e qualche battuta non guasta mai), oltre al menù alla carta, ci ha elencato i piatti del giorno, nel mentre ci ha acceso delicatamente una candela posizionata sul tavolo, (amo le candele) piccolo gesto ma di grande effetto, anche se non tutti ci fanno caso. Arriviamo ai piatti, c'è stata molta cura nel servire le pietanze, come pure l'impiattamento e noto subito che il pesce non nuota in sughi e condimenti per coprirne il sapore, abbiamo ordinato cozze e vongole in guazzetto, molto gustose e soprattutto ben spurgate, poi arrivano le cappesante gratinate dolci e morbidissime all'interno, ottima gratinatura, per nulla pesante, infine mi arriva un gnocchetto al ragù di astice, a dir poco....... beh che dire..... Complimenti allo chef e allo staff della cucina......... il mio rammarico è stato il non riuscire a finire il piatto, le porzioni sono davvero generose. Per la tipologia di location, e la sua posizione (nel cuore della città ma allo stesso tempo rilegato in una vietta lontana dal caotico traffico), per l'ottimo cibo, materie prime e per l' impeccabile servizio, mi aspettavo un conto sopra la media, invece prezzi onesti e contenuti (non aspettatevi prezzi da fast foods che poi ci rimanete male e fate recensioni negative). Detto ciò, consiglio vivamente di fare un salto in questo locale, per un pranzo o cena, ma anche per un calice di buon vino e perché no............. Un bel giro di quei famosi "cicchetti venexiani" Complimenti a tutto lo staff di casa...
