I don't normally write reviews however I had to make an exception. We chose this restuarant based on previous reviews and we were hoping for some nice food. We received two 'cocktails' on arriving, these were the popular Venetian Spritz, but they were made with cheap ingredients or something different as they did not taste like the classic Spritz. I suppose that's why they're free! First of all there was no music, which made the entire meal incredibly awkward as you can hear other people's conversations and when it finally did go quiet, the only noise was coming from a refrigerator. This really ruined the idea of going for a romantic meal when there was a complete lack of music to set the mood. Perhaps add some music to set the atmosphere, after all it is Italy put some classical music on it'll help to set a romantic vibe! Secondly the food, my god the biggest waste of money I've ever spent on food. The lasagne was soggy and tasted as if it was gone off, almost tasted like mould. The spaghetti was just a big lump of spaghetti on a plate with tomato sauce that tasted like cheap sauce from a low cost shop, nothing special at all. The fried mixed seafood was horrible. All of the fish was chewy and was like eating rubber. We were told it was freshly prepared however it tasted like it was cooked from a prepackaged frozen bag of fish. Only decent thing was the pork chop. Desserts of chocolate mousse and panna cotta were the only nice thing from the menu. I don't understand how this restaurant has received good reviews. Maybe we ordered the wrong things, however that shouldn't determine the quality of food served. A word of advice, spend your money elsewhere. This is another tourist trap with food of bad quality. There are better places to spend your money and for cheaper prices too! If you're looking for a romantic meal in Venice with nice food, this is...
Read moreMy new favourite restaurant in the world! And I mean it! My husband and I had a four course dinner for €28/person and we felt it was worth €100/person. It’s in a hidden location, but easy to find, which gave a very humble impression, considering how excellent both the food and service was. Before I get to the food and service, I want to comment on the ambiance. It is so romantic and rustic and quintessentially Italian, I couldn’t have asked for a more ideal environment to experience Italian fine-dining. Now, we were seated as soon as we entered and we’re greeted warmly by the staff. When we sat we were given complimentary mimosas, which were delicious! We ordered the “meal menu” which is a four course meal with a variety of options for each course. The spaghetti al pomodoro (tomato sauce) was the best spaghetti I’ve had in my life, and I’ve eaten a lot of spaghetti in my time. The pork chop was flavorful and not too tough and was paired with a green salad. Before desert, we were given a complimentary desert beverage. I think it was a cream limoncello drink, I just about cried over how wonderful it tasted. A very refreshing drink after a savory meal. Then the tiramisu came out and I actually did cry. It felt inappropriate to lick the plate clean, so I resisted, though I was tempted. We finished off the night with one of the best cappuccinos in town and went back to the hotel with full bellies and happy hearts. Our waiter was so kind and helped give us direction to navigate the city better. I have only amazing things to say about Antica Sacrestia, I hope many people get to enjoy their time at this...
Read moreAbsolutely loved this beautiful little restaurant! An authentic well bodied experience which I had only dreamed about doing. We simply walked in and was seated right when it opened (6:30pm). Our server got the owner right away when I told him I had shellfish allergy and the owner helped us pick our meals and wines.
We had a four course meal which I highly recommend as it was sumptuous! I had a red lasagna while my wife had an artichoke lasagna which was amazing!! Our second course was sea bass with polenta for me and for her an roasted eggplant dish which was divine!! It also came with some roasted veggies which was simply superb. We’re not picky eaters except that my wife dislikes seafood and I’m allergic to shellfish.
PROTIP FOR PEOPLE WITH ALLERGIES FOR SHELLFISH
If you are allergic make sure to include mollusks into your termolgy as shellfish does NOT cover all crustaceans. American and Canadians understand what shellfish covers but if you don’t speak Italian make sure to include that you have an allergy to both as they are different. IE “Sono allergico a molluschi e crostacei” as opposed to just “Sono allergico ai crostacei”. The owner was very gracious to let us know this which I vastly appreciate since I’m anaphylactic and carry an EpiPen. I can’t thank him enough for this!!
The desert was a strawberry pannacotta which was light and flavorful. Simply amazing. Paired with our wine is brought out so much more flavor.
The place was clean, lighting was excellent, food was amazing. I missed hearing music but the conversation made up for it.
5 stars for everything. I was super...
