Trattoria Da Ignazio — Restaurant in Venice

As a hospitality employee myself this experience was horrid. There was no one on the door. When we managed to be seated we were not given menus until 5 minutes later and after another 5 minutes the waiter came to ask if we've chosen a wine. We had checked the wine list and asked about their rosés when the waiter said he didn't know about them and then walked away to greet two new customers - an experience we missed out on. After another 5 minutes of waiting and seeing 2 waiters languidly chatting with tables, we decided this was not the experience the establishment seemed to promise and it was not for us. We got up and began to head to the door when what seemed to be the manager reacted to us leaving by implying we didn't wait enough. When I said that 10 minutes is too long a wait without any attention aside from the dismissive 15 seconds regarding the wine list, the response was "Oh Madonna! Few minutes!" I reminded him we had waited long enough without any service and that the service we received was short, uninformed and dismissive he continued with "Oh Madonna!!" No. You don't complain that a guest hasn't waited long enough. You apologize and try to rectify the situation. There were only about 5 or 6 tables, 4 top maximum. Venice is known for substandard food (by comparison to other Italian tourist destinations), but this beautiful restaurant proves this hypothesis wrong. A bit hard to find, the restaurant is tucked away in one of the hottest tourist areas in Venice. This is a more expensive but great price/value restaurant, featuring linen table cloths and a nice an quiet outdoor dining area. The food is absolutely fantastic. We had sea bass carpaccio, clam spaghetti, and shrimp/crayfish pasta and it was great! The servings are traditionally small since you to through all four courses, but the preparation is fantastic. In my assessment, this establishment falls significantly short of expectations. The quality of the cuisine leaves much to be desired; the pasta was inadequately prepared, the seafood emitted an unpleasant odor, the bread was unacceptably firm, and the utensils and tableware were unclean. Regrettably, the most disconcerting aspect of the experience was the standard of service, as we were treated as though they were conferring us a favor. The food took a staggering one hour and a half to be served after we placed our order, and the dessert never materialized.
