Locanda degli Scaligeri — Restaurant in Verona

We fell in love with this place. It's a place where locals go, and the odd tourist finds themselves, but it's certainly not full of tourists. It's not the cheapest, but certainly not expensive. We tried many restaurants while in Verona and this was the only one we returned too. In fact we came back three times, and each time we ate somewhere else we were mostly disappointed. We should've just come here.

The service was friendly and timely. The translations on the menu aren't perfect and the staff wouldn't pass a a level in English, but then we aren't in England are we! There was enough for everyone to understand what was what and have a bit of banter. We had a few dishes and recommend them all (see the photos), from the 23euro cheeseboard to the 10 euro bigoli, it was great. Well cooked, lashings of high quality olive oil and cooked with what feels like love. The presentation of the food is beautiful. The wines are great, and I can recommend the speri ripasso. My favourite dish had to be the bigoli with anchovies, pine nuts and tomato's, but gosh everything we ate was so good.

If we come back to Verona it will be just...

We wanted a special place for dinner to celebrate a birthday while on holiday. This place looked amazing and the menu also looked impressive.

We turned up without booking a table, and were able to be given a table for two.

The waiter brought us an iPad and explained how to use it for electronic ordering and sending the order to the kitchen. This was the only interaction with the staff, except when they brought our food and drinks out.

We wanted another drink, but couldn’t work out how to order again, so didn’t bother 😕

The food we had was nothing spectacular- although the ingredients said it should be (Iberico pork with truffles, and braised pork cheeks with red wine reduction), both with mashed potatoes.

Other diners looked to be having interesting food choices, especially the sharing boards/platers.

€58 for two meals and 1x wine and 1x beer, so price...

Il nostro viaggio in realtà incomincia a Chioggia ma per tornare verso Milano, abbiamo deciso di fare sosta a Verona, per mangiare bene e in seguito con la pancia piena per visitare il centro. Locanda degli Scaligeri, un ristorante in realtà trovato per caso, passeggiando lungo la via principale, affamati e disperati a causa della chiusura di molti ristoranti per le festività dell’epifania, grazie al cartello sulla strada principale, che ha tentato la nostra curiosità, convinti dalla fame abbiamo deciso di accomodarci in questa locanda molto chic e con una proposta culinaria al quanto contemporanea. All’interno un’accoglienza molto calorosa, che non si direbbe forse a causa delle ordinazioni che vengono effettuate con apposito tablet di cui ogni tavolo è fornito, uno dei camerieri, spiegherà al tavolo la concezione di questa locanda, illustrando il vasto menù digitale, naturalmente provvisto di diverse lingue, sfoglierà il menù e indicherà quali sono i passaggi molto comodi e veloci per prenotare le pietanze. Arredamento molto curato nei dettagli, ricchissimo corredo di vini che rendono questa locanda, una sosta molto piacevole nella quale assaporare dei piatti fantastici della tradizione di Verona rivisitati in chiave moderna, la locanda di cui la vastissima scelta di vino gli fa da cornice, offre una vasta scelta di piatti di carne, di pesce, piatti vegetariani e proposte gluten free, materie prime di altissima qualità rendono questa locanda una sosta imprescindibile a Verona per coloro che vogliono assoporare dei piatti della tradizione con un non so che in più. Abbiamo ordinato dei gnocchi con sfilacciato di cavallo, bis di tortelli viola all'amarone ripieni di brasato, bigoli cacio e pepe con pearà, polenta con verdure grigliate e una cotoletta super crunchy cotta nel burro di Malaga con contorno di patate. Cotoletta molto abbondante a discapito del piatto di bigoli forse un po' carente nella quantità, nulla da dire sui tortelli al brasato, piatto squisito, esplosione di sapori, mai mangiato dei tortelli così buoni come da osteria Scaligeri.

PRO: posizione ottima, offerta vasta di piatti, altissima qualità degli ingredienti e ottima preparazione dei piatti, cordialità e personale gentile, ambiente caldo e accogliente forse dovuto alla temperatura dei vini.

CONTRO: non ci sono assolutamente aspetti negativi, unico, a mio avviso, scarsa quantità di pietanze in alcuni piatti e prezzi leggermente alti, che rispecchiano i piatti, in linea con le materie prime e con il Mood moderno di osteria, di certo non un' osteria che passa inosservata.
