HORRENDOUS SERVICE
We were in Verona for the Vivaldi Four Seasons Immersive Concert at the Arena last August. The hotel we stayed at was not far from this restaurant and I saw they have good reviews. I even made a reservation for dinner before the concert. We arrived at the time we booked, we got seated and we ordered. All seemed fine and then everything just went downhill. They brought our wine and beer and my son's Margherita pizza and Fanta within 15 -20minutes after we ordered but after that, the rest of our meal took sooooo long. After about 50 minutes, sat there with our drinks, all the tables around us with everyone else who came to the restaurant after us were merrily eating their meals. I also noticed that they were given this "bread box" to start with before their meals arrived but we were not given any and no one came to check on us until I flagged someone down
I asked a passing server if she knows what's going on with our order and she sent the wait staff that took our order and she said it's just they were busy but will follow up with the kitchen. After another 20 minutes, they finally brought our pasta and both were room temperature, not hot at all we could not eat them and could not bear the thought of asking them and again waiting for them to bring us freshly cooked food.
When they saw that we did not eat our food and asked why, we told them it was stone cold and inedible, and to be fair, they were good enough to take the cost of the pastas off our final bill.
I kept thinking what went wrong...we were the only people in that section of the restaurant when we arrived and yet everyone else around us got better service and got their orders out first. As a restaurant, you cannot use the excuse that "it is busy with many patrons"...most restaurants we go to anywhere in the world are busy but the service is always up to par even if the servers are not able to or would not go above and beyond. We're not fussy people, we're easily pleased and we always try to understand unexpected situations but that we have to ask for our order after being sat in the restaurant and watching everyone else who came after us already eating and drinking merrily and then after 1 hour and 30 minutes (yes, we're that patient), they had the audacity to bring our order of pastas that were probably sitting on the counter for the last hour. It was just too much. Our server did not even bother to come around to apologise when we paid for the Pizza and the drinks.
Sorry to say this, I don't like playing the race card, but I suppose I have been a bit more wary since the pandemic, it's has only happened once before at a restaurant in Prague that I felt shabbily treated and honestly, I am not that sensitive -- but the only thing that stood out to me that day at OSTINATI Verona, after thinking why it happened, is the fact that I was the only ASIAN NON WHITE in the restaurant that night. You do the math.
I wish now I read the bad reviews before we went here. There is another Asian person who also felt discriminated on before...so just to be safe...ASIANS...
Read moreThe food was wonderful, portion sizes were good, and our server (Christina) went above and beyond, even delivering us our food on multiple plates because we wanted to share with one another. (Note that the pasta images have half of the portion size because of this).
Absolutely would recommend this restaurant, the prices were good and the meal was excellent. They had great options for both the first/main courses and the desserts! The outdoor seating was lovely at evening, in an area far enough from the arena / main square that there was not a lot of commotion. Just all round a very good pick for a...
Read moreWe ate here on our last night of our honeymoon in Italy. It was nearby to our hotel and we took the chance that they might have a gluten free option as I’m coeliac. I couldn’t find any information online if they did gluten free but it ended up being our best meal of the week. They had gluten free breadsticks, bread and gluten free pasta. My husband had the fried seafood and thoroughly enjoyed his dinner. We both got a side of baked cabrette potatoes as we weren’t sure how big the portions would be but we needn’t have worried as there was more than enough food. A great...
