Le Cantine del Palazzo — Restaurant in Volterra

We were here for several meals while staying at the Hotel San Lino. Since the hotel restaurant was not open and our reservations included dinner, we had to eat at Le Cantine del Palazzo.

We were not impressed. As a San Lino guest, you have a different, very limited, menu. (A photo of the menu was not accepted by google for the review—not sure why).

When we asked if water or wine was included in the fixed menu, the host, who spoke fluent english, told us 'whatever you want'. At the end of the meal we discovered it is not included.

Overall we were not impressed by the quality or choice of the food options.

The next time we were at the restaurant, we asked if we could just have a credit toward the regular menu. That was ok, but they charged more than the difference in price of what was on the limited menu and the price of the choices on the regular menu. On that night we had a very good pizza and excellent desserts.

Overall, better NOT to get half board at Hotel San Lino and take your money to a different...

Zuerst sah das Ambiente ja ganz schön aus. Dann stellte sich schnell heraus, dass das Restaurant größer und hässlicher ist als ein Bunker und noch viel mehr Räume als den gesehenen besitzt. Als Speisekarte gab es ein einzelnes kleines Handy, wo alles super unübersichtlich war und man noch die privaten Instagram Nachrichten gesehen hat. Wir waren zu viert. Was wir an Essen bekommen haben, war unterirdisch. Ich weiß gar nicht wie ich das beschreiben soll. Die Nudeln waren nicht mal richtig durch. Die Gnocchi und dessen Sauce waren übersüß. Ich hatte bessere Erwartungen an einen Italiener. Aber selbst jedes deutsche Restaurant kann das besser. Selbst das Bier war ekelhaft, aber da kann das Restaursnt wahrscheinlich nichts für. Jedenfalls mochte ich es nicht.

Die Portionen waren sehr klein. Das Gute war, dass meine Freunde ihr Essen GAR nicht mehr essen wollten und ich dadurch die reste bekam. Ich musste mich zwar unglaublich quälen, konnte aber mit viel Arbeit am Ende satt werden.

Ich verstehe wirklich nicht, woher die guten Bewertungen kommen. Es muss zum Beispiel ein anderer Koch sein. Ich empfehle aber nicht darauf zu spekulieren.

Lustig war auch, dass die Stühle halb auseinandergefallen sind und Teile auf den Boden lagen.

Am nächsten Morgen auf Toilette hatte ich wirklich keinen Spaß.

Das Ganze heißt Le Cantine. Eine Kantine ist aber um Welten besser als dieses "Restaurant". Kennt ihr den Abfalleimer aus Spongebob? Das ist dieses Restaurant.

We sat at a table with the most beautiful view. The bruschetta was the most delicious we have ever tasted, tomatoes, garlic, black pepper, balsamic but incredible olive oil. The home made pasta was melt in your mouth amazing. We chose hare and wild bore. The house wine was just perfect and extremely reasonably priced. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough for anyone who is looking for an authentic Italian meal in a stunning setting. ( only 2 tables...
