Chikarano Shokudo — Restaurant in Biei

Could not decide which to get when everything seemed so delicious. Went ahead with the platter instead, which has Furano roast beef, Biei roast pork, and Ezo roast venison with various condiments. The platter came with a bowl of potato soup (cooked with milk) topped with croutons and salad. All were so delicious!

The lady and gentleman (both friendly) who run the place are very efficient. Chikarano has a small kitchen area set up behind the bar counter, but they managed to prepare and deliver food (beautifully presented) and beverages, then clean up after guests leave without much delay, prep the salads. In minutes, place was clean and tidy. I used the washroom. It was clean as well. Out of curiosity, I ordered their homemade shisho juice....

Proprietresses were such lovely ladies and accommodated my shambolic Japanese 😅(thank you!)

That aside, it's a very cosy and lovely little restaurant. We ordered deer stew (made from local Biei venison) and the roast beef don which were both excellent. Highly recommend this establishment if you're stopping along Biei - for something tasty...

The roast deer rice bowl is amazing and the salad was so colourful and fresh! The deer meat is from Biei and the pork is from Kamifurano (the town next door). Very nice atmosphere and not too many seats so it’s very quiet and...
