Chicken and Waffles, one of many southen staple foods that I enjoy. Being from a region of the U.S with heavy southern cuisine influences, I'm always looking for food to satisfy my cravings for back home. CC's Chicken N' Waffles: a seawall eatery that has large potential but fell a tad short for me.
First let's speak about the environment: It's a popular small little eatery on seawall, people definitely take a liking to this little place. It was a tad busy but that is okay for I am patient for food. The inside smells just like chicken and waffles which definitely gets my taste buds going. It has a small interior so I sat outside for my meal, which is okay due to it is under a area of the restaurant that gives shade from the sun. It was beautiful however outside which is nice. Next up the service: I shall reiterate on what I said before, it was a tad busy due to it being a popular spot so has a small wait time to get a seat of about 20 minutes which isn't to bad. The woman who took my order was very nice, she was helpful and attentive, she also helped recommend the dish I ate which helped speed the process of food to choose. They have a vast menu of brunch items so I am sure you'll find what you want when you're looking for that mix between breakfast and lunch meal. And last but not least, the food: Due to it being a busy eatery after I had ordered it took probably another 10-15 minutes for the food. I had the chicken in onion gravy, fries, and Coleslaw. The fries were hot, fresh, and tasty especially with the onion gravy. The onion gravy is flavorful with a good mix of taste and not to strong which is a preference of mine. However what falls short the most was the Coleslaw and chicken for me personally. We'll start with the Coleslaw: For me, it didn't have a good combination of sauce to veggies. For me personally it tasted of light watered-down lettuce with light taste compared to what you would expect from a southern Coleslaw blend. And to end on a little higher note is the chicken review: With the fries hot and fresh I was expecting the same consistency with the chicken as well but perhaps it had just gone a tad cold between the time of Preparation and bringing it out. It was warm but not the hot and fresh I was expecting, and I understand with a sauce drizzled over a food item can take away heat but for this, within the chicken was only warm which is a tell-tell sign that it had a wait time itself before it made it out to me. However on the plus side, the chicken had a good tasty breading that wasn't to plain and wasn't over the top crispy, it did have still good flavour and breading.
Summary: for now this little seawall eatery gets a 3 star review based on it's service of the nice woman who took my order, good smells, the shade of where I ate, the fries, gravy, and the potential that this eatery has. I shall be coming back here to give it another go and make another review. CC's Chicken N' Waffles absolutely has potential but perhaps it just fell short on me the day I went due to the...
Read moreI went for dinner on Thursday when it wasn't busy. My family and I were the only customers, so I got to experience great service. The music was especially good.
The food was good, but the chicken thigh was basically a very thin slice of chicken making up about 10% of the piece and 90% fried batter. The waffles were very good, especially with added toppings and their syrup. The buffalo wings weren't very saucy; really nothing special.
Then came the bill. They added an item to the end of the bill titled "Ex Rate". When I asked what it is, the lady told me it was a fee for the exchange rate, but that was clearly a lie because the $7.50 waffle and 2-piece chicken was listed as 1050 yen on the bill, which is already at the correct conversion rate of 140 yen per dollar, maybe slightly in their favor since the yen rate right now is hovering around 137-138, so that should cover the costs of converting the money. And if paying by credit card, my bank handles the exchange rate automatically.
Then she told me, "if you pay cash, we take off that fee." Aha, so it was actually an exorbitant credit card fee, not a currency exchange fee. If they would've charged about 3% or so for a credit card fee, I wouldn't have minded, but my fee was 1114 yen on top of 5070 yen worth of food, or about 22%! And of course they tax the fee, too, so it was over 1200 yen for a credit card fee. An absolute rip-off, and I imagine many customers just pay without noticing it. It feels like they're stealing money from unwary customers, and that just isn't morally acceptable to me.
For parking, if you go on a weekday evening when it's not busy, you'll find plenty of parking along...
Read moreI hail from the UK and a very American dish like fried chicken and waffles has not broken into the British restaurant scene yet.
It should though, for it is a mighty combination.
As I had heard great tales of chicken and waffles over the years, my anticipation was sky high. I can safely say I definitely came to the right place to try it.
I ordered the waffle with three pieces of chicken tenders and oh boy was it glorious.
The three tenders came piping hot, juicy, full of flavour with a slight crisp. Just the right amount of crisp might I say, a satisfying texture change but not so crunchy it ruins the bite.
The waffle looked like the perfect waffle, Instagram percent, almost cartoony, if you will.
The taste was just as good as it looked, sweet, but with a well - done flavour to complement that, crisp and fluffy, waffles can't really get much better than this.
Alongside the waffle comes a fairly thick, caramel syrup with a hint of cinnamon. This goes beautifully with the waffle and complements the chicken nicely.
However I felt that the bottle of hot sauce they provided was more suited to my tastes. Slightly smoky, tangy and spicy, it paired with the salty rich chicken perfectly and went surprisingly well with the waffle.
I should also mention the actual restaurant itself, the decor inside CC's seems like what a snug cafe in the centre of New York city would be, radiating a warm, homely atmosphere.
I came here twice and when I come to Okinawa again, I'll be heading...
