Visiting Okinawa for the first time, my friend said this bagel place was good and would be quick before our trip up to the north. Everything is outside seating, but I had to use the restroom, so I walked in and asked both the ladies behind the counter if I could use the restroom. They both looked at me and didn’t say a word, so I proceeded to the restroom. When I got back, my friend was about to order, but being that I’d never been there before, I wanted to continue looking at the menu, so I let the person behind me go.
When he was finished, I went right up to the window and the woman taking orders looked at me and walked away. I stood there saying “hello” a few times. She started working in the back and never bothered acknowledging me. Finally, the man who was making bagels asked me if I wanted to order, after minutes went by. I literally pointed to the sign in the window that said “BLT special, fried egg, avocado, bacon and cream cheese” more than once, as well as the in the menu and I ordered a green smoothie.
After waiting 20 minutes, the woman who ignored me brought out the person who ordered his sandwich AFTER my friend. He ordered the same thing, hers didn’t have bacon though. I was irritated by that and asked about my friend’s order, they said it was coming. 5 more minutes went by and they gave us our smoothies. 35 minutes went by and we finally get our sandwiches. FINALLY! I open up my sandwich and the bagel is extra hard, but not only that, it’s missing the egg and avocado. What?! So I go up to the window and state the items that are missing in the sandwich and the man says I ordered the special. I said yes, I did, then he back tracked and said I only ordered the BLT. I kept saying I pointed to the sign in the window and he kept arguing me down, going back and forth with the women behind him. At that point I was through and told him to give me my money back and shoved the sandwich back to him. Just freaking rude!
After I walked away the woman who ignored me stormed outside and started aggressively closing the shop and throwing chairs inside and being nasty to the rest of the customers there. I literally have never experienced such appalling behavior anywhere, let alone in JAPAN in my life! The bagel didn’t even look good, y’all. HOOP on mainland would NEVER!! Read moreWe were so excited to try The Little Cactus this morning after seeing all the positive reviews. However, our experience was quite different.
When we arrived, there was no clear sign indicating the shop was open. The entrance was through a door in a dark alley, which felt uninviting. We walked in and asked if they were open, and were immediately met with an unfriendly response.
The staff didn’t ask any questions or confirm our orders. We didn’t even realize they only offered plain bagels until the end of our order—and that was only because we had to ask. When our food arrived, half of our order was missing.
Now for the items we did receive:
• The espresso shot was mediocre; it seemed the beans were either old or ground too early. • The matcha latte was overly sweet. • The latte was watery. • The peanut butter bagel with strawberry jam was disappointing. The bagel wasn’t toasted, and the peanut butter was crunchy (which wasn’t mentioned on the menu) and had a burnt taste.
The one bright spot was the salmon and cream cheese bagel. It was delicious, with a generous amount of fillings and a well-made bagel.
Overall, the experience was disappointing and we left feeling as irritated as the man...
Read moreWell I am officially done with this place. I ordered directly from the menu which is in English. They made the sandwich’s incorrectly, so I asked for it to be fixed. I was really shocked when the man working there got extremely upset at my request and told me I need to speak Japanese. I did not deviate from the menu selection at all! I understand we are guests here , but I know this place gets mostly American customers especially since it is located across the street from the AF base, and they have an English menu. He did not want to make the adjustment on the 3 sandwiches and wanted to refund me. I had to basically beg him to make the sandwiches per the menu. He said you will be waiting 20 more minutes. I said no problem. Then they just closed the place down , 4 hours early, and put a big sign in the window! They came back 10 minutes later and practically threw my sandwich’s at me. My theory is kill him with kindness so I thanked them many times, and left. The over dramatics at correcting their mistake was crazy. I could maybe see if I had deviated from the menu selection, but I did not. The rudeness was over the top. There is another bagel place right up the road so no need...
