They don’t take reservations so expect to wait! We waited about 50 minutes for our table for 7. There were so many people waiting, we actually weren’t allowed to all wait inside despite the rain outside. I wouldn’t say the service was necessarily that attentive. They were just so busy! But also they weren’t rude, so it was fine. We ordered 7 different varieties, and actually all of them were good. No complaints from anyone. In fact, I loved that it came in the stone pot so that my food stayed hot until the end. The hoto noodles were interesting (in a good way), and the toppings were plentiful. By the end, we were all rolling out of the restaurants like balls cause we were just so full!

Unique food called Hōtō where you can only find in this Yamanashi area. We had to wait for 10 minutes since the restaurant was packed. Hōtō is like a flat udon with miso soup, plus a LOT of vegetables. It's very warming. Feel especially good in a cold or rainy days. Great atmosphere, you have to sit on the tatami though so prepared yourselves if you're not used to sitting with crossed legs. They have English menu for foreigners too. You just raise your hand up when you want to call the staffs, they'll come for you.

We got some hoto noodles here for the first time. They were delicious and hearty. The restaurant had a relaxed feel and staff were all very accommodating. The peach sherbet and kabocha ice cream desserts were amazing. Beautiful presentation and delicious flavor - these desserts would not have been out of place at the end of a high-end kaiseki meal.

The signature oyster houtou features a rich, savory miso broth with tender oysters, perfect for warming up. The large shrimp tempura bowl is satisfying with its crispy batter and juicy shrimp. The spacious seating, including tatami rooms, makes it ideal for families. While prices are slightly high, the restaurant provides a great opportunity to enjoy authentic local flavors and a relaxing atmosphere in the heart of Yamanashi.

石和温泉駅から徒歩10分程で行けるほうとう屋に友達と2人で行ってきました。 日曜日の14時半頃に来店。 昼過ぎの時間帯を狙ったのですが、まさかの大行列。30分ほど待って、店内に着席できました。外にベンチが置いてあるので、待つのにそんな苦労はしませんでした。 店内は全部畳が敷かれており、座敷席or掘り炬燵のどちらかに案内されます。今回は掘り炬燵でした。 一度来店したことがあるので、知っていたのですが、デフォルトでほうとうの量が多いです。ですので、がっつり食べれる方々が揃ってない場合、2人で来店されたらほうとうは1つだけで十分です。 今回注文したメニューは… ・豚肉ほうとう(1,600円) ・とりモツ煮(500円) ・馬刺し(1,100円) ・白菜の漬物(400円)※期間限定 ・ワカサギの天ぷら(650円) ・ビールやレモンサワー どれも全部美味しかったのですが、特に美味しかったのは、とりモツ煮と馬刺し！！ ◆とりモツ煮 山梨県の名物料理でもあるとりモツ煮ですが、こちらのとりモツ煮はレバーやハツを中心としたお肉を甘い醤油で短時間で照り煮したモツ煮です！ 長時間ではなく短時間で調理できる料理にも関わらず、旨みや甘みがギュッと凝縮されています！苦味は一切なく、ビールが進む素晴らしい逸品です！価格も安いので、是非来店されたら個人的にオススメしたいメニューです！ ◆馬刺し 山梨県は馬刺しも名物とのこと！鳥モツ煮と比べたら、値段は倍以上しますが、こちらも注文すべき逸品ですね！小作の馬刺しは、良質な馬肉のとろりとした食感と、甘みのある軽い脂が存分に味わえます！おつまみとして最高です！ 甲州ほうとう小作は本当に美味しいのですので、是非行くことをオススメします！石和温泉の旅館で泊まる際は、旅館での食事を楽しむのも良いですが、夜に小作に来店して、居酒屋として活用するのも全然アリだと思います！ 再訪確定のお店です！ また山梨に行った際は、立ち寄りたいと思います！ ご馳走様でした！

We had a brief stop at Koshu Hoto Kosaku while visiting Fuji 🗻. Me and my friend ordered the spicy beef kalbi Hoto and duck dish. Both were great. I liked the spicy beef one as it was more flavorful. 🍜 Service was great, they got us English menu and followed up on any requests.
