Isawa is a small city, less than 2 hours by bus from Tokyo. I spent 2 nights at this hotel, with different dinner staying in the same room. It is located about five minutes walk from Isawa train station, or, as I chose, 8 minutes walk from bus stop. There is a famous sweets shop located just around the hotel corner, and in fact somehow connected to the hotel. The hotel itself is dated.||||I reserved a room with open air onsen and my room is located on the ground floor, and in Japan ground floor is called first floor. There is free flow of drinks, including beer, vinegar and juice, outside the public bath between 4 pm and 6pm. There is free udon noodle available in the lobby after dinner time, if guests wanted something to eat after dinner.||||Dinner on both evenings are excellent. I had 1 dinner in the function room and one dinner in a private room. Breakfast is probably the best onsen breakfast I have ever had, with lots of different kinds of food, including the usual and, curry rice, think udon, tempura and eggs cooked right on the table, which you do not always have for breakfast. The hotel even provide paper cups for the guests to take some drinks back to their room. Fruits is freshly prepared at the food counter. ||||The public onsen provided towels so guests do not need to bring their own from room. There are also massage loungers in the public bath. I visited the free rental onsen bath, which is not much bigger than the one in my room. The other rental onsen bath (Manyou) is much lager and nicer, which cost yen 2,000 each session of one hour.||||The hotel is situated next to a river, and the open air onsen in our room is close to the river. The private onsen is big enough for 2 at the same time, with temperature just hot enough. The tatami living room area is ideal for taking a rest while enjoying the tea and sweets provided by the hotel.||||Although the hotel is a bit dated, the service level...

Read moreMy family came from the USA and were warmly welcomed here. We stayed here for a couple of nights for a wedding party. The rooms are traditional and large. Everyday the little desserts/cookie/pastries left after the beds were nicely made were super delicious, better than most traditional ryokans. They offer private onsen, so if you want to go with just your family and kids you can reserve a time which is wonderful! The onsen is very clean and well kept, no strange moldy smell or weird hairballs anywhere. plenty of towels and amenities to make it convenient. They do offer refreshments by the entrance so you can get rehydrated after a nice soak. ||||The food is delicious. We had the fine dinning for the wedding party and everything tasted just as great as it looked on presentation. The seafood sooo fresh!! As for the breakfast and dinner buffet our family had was amazing. Tons of selection, fresh, and well organized. The staff was really great at accommodating our family, giving us a lots of water refills (as Americans i noticed we drink more glasses of water versus it's more custom to drink tea) and providing us with a karaoke machine for our families entertainment. At one point the machine had a glitch, but the manager came right in and fixed it immediately for us without us having to run down someone for help, so attentive! ||||The location is great because there is a supermarket/department store 5m walking distance. You can go there and get some local goodies when in town. It's also easy to go for a run around the town, which my uncle did every morning from the hotel/ryokan. ||||If you are traveling from out of town and in Yamanashi this is great...
