The food here is loaded with flavour and tastes great!
I didn't see a paper menu (some older reviews have pictures) and you order using your smartphone (online menu) as it looks like a 1-person biz. With main dishes there are options to add sides, drinks etc., Kind of like building a meal set.
There are about 7 tables and they take bookings.
The menu is basically burgers, taco rice, sides and smoothies/desserts and drinks. They have a coffee menu and serve a few types of alcohol (beer, wine and spirits; I ordered a cocktail).
We ordered a cheeseburger (with some add-ons), an avocado burger, plain juices and fries, and taco rice. We also got a chocolate ice cream for dessert.
The taco rice is made with soy mince and is served with wholegrain (genmai) rice (which was delicious).
I forgot to take photos of the french fries and the chocolate ice cream.
The fries are clearly home-made (which is a plus for me). They have so much flavour and a nice texture (not mushy). They are perfectly salted and seasoned with fine herbs that made them taste even better.
My husband and son enjoyed their burgers. The bread was soft and the fillings were ample. There is a spicy mayo that is used on a lot of the dishes. I think it's yummy and not too spicy but my son doesn't like anything that tingles. The vegan cheese used is very good and melts on the burger.
We shared some chocolate ice cream for dessert. I forgot to take a photo. It comes as 2 scoops in a martini glass, with some cacao nibs and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. It was excellent. (Some other vegan ice cream places in Fukuoka have very bland ice cream but this was sweet enough (not too sweet) and really tasted chocolatey.)
I had an espresso martini. It was nice but didn't taste like a traditional one. There was definitely enough booze in it as I really felt it! Haha
I'll try the affogato next time I visit. I also wish there were more dishes without gluten or soy but Sonu sonu is definitely...
Read moreThe highlight of Fukuoka dining. So happy I found this restaurant, and the smoothies are works of art. Atmosphere 5-stars, Food 6-7 Stars Just an amazing restaurant all around. For those who are looking for a healthy, feel good dining experience with plant-based options, you can't do better in this city. Reviews laud Sonu Sonu for its vegetarian options, and I have to say that meat-eaters will be equally satisfied as the chef has done such a good job with substitutes and creativity that it's not even noticeable. I ordered quite a bit from the menu, including salads, a taco rice plate, local craft beer, potage, and of course the smoothies. Everything was excellent, and the salads were way more than just lettuce and tomatoes on a plate, including broccoli, beans, and an assortment of greens. Also had a type of chili that was bean based with avocado and rice. Smoothies: banana chocolate with coffee (if I'm remembering correctly), and a lavender smoothie with blueberries. A little expensive but they were beautifully prepared and excellent. There were also options to add ingredients like chia seeds to the smoothie for an extra boost. I will say that it's probably better to order quite a few things from the menu if you are hungry, as they are not calorie dense (well except for the smoothies). The menu had quite a good selection, and I would definitely have gone a second time while in Fukuoka if I was staying longer. This is absolutely a restaurant I would go out of my way to eat at. It wasn't too far a walk from the museum I went to that day either, which was a nice bonus. Highly...
Read moreI had the burger; The bread for the bun was excellent, I'd eat it plain. For a sandwich it's good, I really liked the flavors and textures. When I think burger, I want the patty to thick and juicy, really satisfying, and I didn't get that from this sandwich. On the flip side, if the menu said only "vegan sandwich" instead of "burger" I probably wouldn't have tried it. Glad I did.
My wife had taco rice; The meat replacement "stuff" is a mix of oats, mushrooms and caramelized onion, it's a little sweet. Add some cumin to give it a flavor closer to taco meat. All the other parts were also good.
Maple latte, kind of bitter. Not a huge fan. Rosemary latte, weird but good, since I expect the rosemary to be bitter, it disguises the bitterness of the coffee and turned out pretty well. I'd buy that again.
When you buy orange juice, they give you a bowl of oranges to put in a machine: The juice machine just crushes whole oranges. It's...
