Yuki no Sho — Restaurant in Fukuoka

It was 6:57pm with three minutes to closing. I was walking fast desperately searching and when I asked a nearby shop where the shop was, an old man from the street perked his head up, walked up to me and led me to a staircase assuring me in another language that I was heading in the right direction. I spent the next two hours in a mom and pop shop long closed with mom and pop. The next piece of my meal that made me feel at home - mom and pop let me squeeze into their kitchen and watch as pop carefully ground perfectly cylindrical ice into fine ice shavings and mom beautifully and masterfully dressed the ice with chocolate. When I took my seat, mom delivered the confection to my seat like she was serving me my holiday plate of food. Aside from the the reason I was there which was as deserving of a five star rating as anything else, I enjoyed a long conversation with 'mom' that felt like I was catching up with her after not having seen her for years. The conversation, though fun for me, was a memory exercise because every 5 minutes mom would go into the kitchen area and perfectly recall all details of my Japan trip and US upbringing to pop.

This trip was a year and a half ago and even though I have a bad memory, I remember every detail.

We visited this cafe on Monday 2025.04.21. It was a charming little place on the second floor, serving excellent shaved ice. We were three people and ordered one chocolate banana shaved ice and two iced teas. The chocolate banana shaved ice was delicious! The older gentleman who served us was very sweet and it was obvious that he took a lot of care to make our order! As we were the only ones in the shop, we didn‘t have to wait for our order. The best shaved ice store in Japan. The store itself is very cozy and I could not have asked for a better service than this place compared to any other restaurants in Fukuoka. I will definitely cherish the moments (even though it was only for like 30min stay) that i had in here when i go back to Korea.
