Full marks for Dormy Inn, we had impeccable service from the service team over there this time round. As we were using them as a platform to travel throughout Kyushu, we had left some baggage with them while we were away. They were nice enough to keep the baggage for us after they had validated that we have subsequent booking. The breakfast roast beef was 10/10 best ever, they had an expensive Balmuda Toaster which allows for your toast to be fluffy while crispy and they have a Japanese style breakfast spread consisting of small plates including Mentaiko and Salmon Tartare.Location is close to Hakata Station, it takes about 12 minutes walk to reach there. Just opposite is FUK Coffee, they serve fantastic expresso coffee and just down the street on the left is an AEON MAX VALUE 24 hour supermarket with cheap bentos, sushi, alcohol and sashimi available. Moving more on the left side direction is a shopping street with Daiso and other amenities.I have to say that in general, Dormy Inn’s public baths – onsen facilities are top notch, they do not close after midnight (other than the sauna), the shower head is $300 in price from Refa and their hot water mixer taps are not press per use, but those normal ones you just turn on and it runs the water. The public bath is 10/10 fantastic.During our last night there, Super Typhoon Kong-Rey was in the area and we had huge rainfall. Dormy Inn lent us umbrellas and it was the first time we experienced the fact that many of the guests decided to stay in and not go out. The public bath was full and the free ice cream was almost gone! The free noodles given out from 2130 – 2300 was so full they ran out of noodles and they were nice enough to give the guest that missed out instant versions so that they did not need to leave the hotel in the rain. Overall I feel that they deserve full 5 stars, I really enjoyed my stay there and wish the staff all the best and thank you for...
Read moreLong walk from Hakata station - We took the train from Fukuoka International Airport to Hakata station. Caught in the rain, and with our luggages, it took us about 20 mins or slightly more to arrive at Dormy Inn Premium Hakata Canal City. Rained a few days during our May 2018 stay in Fukuoka, and had to buy umbrellas. When we left, we asked the hotel reception to book a taxi for us, paid 1,500 yen from hotel to airport.||Hotel is right next to Canal City. Can't miss it as you will be greeted by a huge Uniqlo sign at the traffic junction. But note all shops close by 9pm. Hotel room was nice and larger than expected, was clean with comfortable beds. Provided : free wifi, ionizer, complimentary water and bath items. Rooms were cleaned every day and new towels provided. Sliding door separates bathroom from bedroom area. Hotel staff spoke good English and were helpful when we tried to ask for info on some tourist areas to visit.||Short walk around hotel to the yatai (only opens from 6pm), and several restaurants and bars. Note: popular restaurants need prior bookings. There are also lots of food places in Hakata station as well as along the way walking back to the hotel. Convenience stores are nearby as well.||Daily breakfast was a good spread though same every day. Also enjoyed the free ramen most nights starting from 9.30pm. ||There is free shuttle (one way) from hotel to Hakata station. It would be nice if they also provide a return trip from Hakata station to Dormy Inn. There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel, bus no. 6 which goes to Tenjin station.||Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Dormy Inn and will definitely...
Read moreA different kind of review - because we never actually stayed at the hotel. ||But we had to write a review for the ‘above and beyond’ service the hotel staff gave us despite not being guests. ||One of the last days of March, me, my husband og two children (3 & 6) arrived in Fukuoka - without a hotel booking. Of course a big mistake. After dropping by multiple hotels down the street from Hakata Station, we ended up in Dormy Inn which of course didn’t have any rooms either. With two tired kids, we maybe looked a bit desperate, but the hotel staff let us borrow the internet for checking hotel vacancies, gave the kids juice, and when we afterwards couldn’t book or catch any taxis, they ran down the street in the rain trying to help us. ||Next time we’re in Fukuoka we’ll definitely book a stay...
