The first restaurant I've been to in Japan where the service staff was very cold. My Japanese is more than passable but the staff muttered so softly I couldn't even catch if they were telling me something or asking a question. Then they just stared at me blankly when I asked for clarification on whether the meat okonomiyaki was pork. Usually in teppanyaki restaurants the staff have a friendly rapport with the counter customers, but not here! Everyone ate in silence and the staff seemed miserable.
