PhiloCoffeeA — Restaurant in Funabashi

There are a number of local heavy-hitters when it comes to Funabashi's coffee scene, and Rudder Coffee is certainly among them. Located in a small corner of Shapo at Funabashi Station, the cafe is easy enough to miss, but you'll be glad when you've found it.

I ended up ordering a dark roast; it was pleasantly aromatic, and the flavor was just wonderful. Although the place is small and seating is a bit cramped, it was great to be able to have a front row seat to the action as the barista carefully brewed our coffee. Definitely don't go for the coffee of the day unless you want to miss out on this.

If the cafe is a bit too small for your liking (being a bigger guy with backpack, it nearly was for me), the owners of this cafe also run a shop that sits between Funabashi Station and city hall called Philocoffea, barely a ten minute walk Rudder Coffee. You won't be losing out on quality at either establishment, though Philocoffea has more room and a quieter atmosphere.
