Japanese weirdness at its tasty best
If you're visiting Goryokaku and haven't visited Hakodate's own fast food chain yet, this is a 5 star must.
The chinese chicken burger was the osusume (recommendation), and being away from Hakodate while I type this, I'd go back for another.
This particular restaurant is their angel themed restaurant (each restaurant in Hakodate has its own theme). The 50's and 60's English/American/Australian music only serves to make this experience feel like an old American diner, complete with delicious thickshakes (better than most - because Hokkaido dairy is Japan's best). Fries in a mug with bechamel, tomato and creamy beef mince is like a crazy lasagne - odd, but it is successful.
The only think letting this restaurant down is they tried to stay true to American beef patties, which after travelling the world are among the least desirable. Go for anything non beef is the bet.
And if you're brave, there is a stacked burger with the lot. I never had it, but they said it was going to be big and dangerous. Another reason...
Read moreGod awful vanilla soft serve. This place is smack in the middle of Hokkaido, the motherland of good soft serves. How can Lucky Pierrot have the cheapest tasting soft serve? It was not creamy at all and it was too sweet. While standing in line in the cashier area, I smelled smoke. I think they allow smoking inside. WHY? Can’t the smoker wait half an hour to eat without smoking and killing others with lung and breast cancers at the same time?!! If you are an employee, please find a job somewhere else, especially if you are a woman employee. Breathing in second hand smoke has been proven to raise your chances of getting breast and lung cancer. Alright, back to the soft serve. It was so bad that I put it in the trash after a few licks. Even 7-Eleven had a better soft serve. 😔
If you want the best soft serve you can ever have, you can get it at this restaurant in Naha, Okinawa. Restaurant name: 和風亭那覇メインプレイス 西 店 (Wafutei San-A Naha Main Place) They have other delicious...
Read moreCame here hoping to try some good American-like food but was pretty disappointed by the hamburger. Ordered the king double burger, and honestly the patties were disappointing and not that good as they tasted undercooked and the bread was soggy from all the sauce they used. Wasn't able to get a combo/set with the hamburger, as they only allow set-meals with specific burgers like their Chinese-chicken burger/sandwich, so had to order a drink and fries separately. Also got the Chinese chicken curry meal, and that tastes fine and was more to my liking than their mediocre burger. The place was mostly interesting because of their unique atmosphere, the various European art pieces, and clown logo, but their food is rather basic at a decent price. As long as you avoid their burgers, I think most of their food should be decent. No refills on drinks. Staff are nice and mostly sweet...
