Stopped in to this unassuming roadside Italian restaurant and cafe mostly due to its location close to our lodging, and I’m so glad that we did!
We both ordered spaghetti for lunch - I got the Neapolitan and my wife got the meat sauce. Both were delicious! We are from Boston, a city known for excellent Italian American food, and we often cook Italian recipes at home. Honestly, I rarely am impressed by restaurant Spaghetti, but the dishes we ate at Cafe Riposo were great!
The highlight however was the coffee. Frankly, it was the best we’ve had in Japan so far and some of the best we’ve had period. Both of use typically take just one cup a day but we each had two at this cafe (with lunch for that matter!) because it was that good.

Read moreWhen we went Hakone, it was cold and walking into Riposo it was such a warm and welcoming sight.
The fairy lights and greenery decorated the interior, giving it a very lush and cosy vibe which melts the winter cold instantly.
Drinks selection was great, with good choices of whisky and wine as well. Didn't order any food as it was close to dinner time for us but could catch the scent of mouth-watering food from the orders of other tables.
