The experience is rather confusing, gives me pub vibes, not your typical Japanese experience ordering is done through a QR code and I've probably had warmer welcomes at the Lawson's down the road.
They charge a mandatory 10% "service fee" on your bill even though there is no service, per se, you'll get your own water and all orders are via the QR code.
For 8'800 JPY per head (+10% service fee of course) I was expecting something pretty decent, more authentic, it was ok, maybe I was unhappy with the broken QR code, the chap who handed us our menus looking very unhappy to be there, the make shift table arrangements.
Dont get me wrong ive eaten in my fair share of places so I understand sometimes you pay over the odds for good food and a good experience however it's just lacking.
We had 5 in our group and they didn't have a big enough table so 4 were sat around the main table them one person off to the side on a make shift table.
With that said food and drink arrived promptly after the QR code issue was rectified (wifi issues and passwords)
On.the plus side one kind fellow who seemed to be doing most of the work there was very helpful in ensuring the coeliac in our group received a separate gluten free meal including seperate cooking tools which was very well managed so not all bad.
Is it worth your $100 per head, I personally think not on...
Read moreThey serve good quality meat accompanied with plenty of side dishes at good price for resort area. The staffs are friendly and flexible, and I liked their diverse background. Their operation needs improvement, but I hope this issue will be solved soon.
I booked through their Instagram account, which was recommended on their official website, but our table was not ready at the time we arrived. The staffs explained that the Instagram account was managed by their outlet in Nakameguro, Tokyo, and the Nakameguro sometimes forgets to let the Hakuba know of it. It might be safer to make booking by phonecall.
Be careful if you are ordering pizza. The photo on the menu looks like Margherita style, but the actual pizza they serve has lots of topings including local Nozawana pickles. I personally liked it, but it was a disappointment for my kids.
If you order Shabu-shabu, it comes with soba or rice to add into the soup. The soba was great, but it looks like not always available. If you want soba, make sure you pre-order.
Overall, I am satisfied with this place, and would like to come back again. It's located in the centre of Happo. If you stay in Happo, now you don't need to travel to Echoland for this kind of...
Read moreI visited Mark's Grill in late March. It was the only restaurant open in the area, as many others were closed. I ordered the Mark's original red wine and Wagyu beef, and they were both delicious. I spoke to the owner, and he told me that he has been running a grill in Tokyo for a long time. The meat (shabu-shabu) was also delicious, and I ate it all up in no time. I wondered if it was an expat price, but I don't think so. I think it's worth the price. The overall price of Japan (and the world) has risen due to the coronavirus. I think prices are rising all over the world. So people who know Japan from a long time ago may feel that prices have risen. That's true. But because the price of fuel and food has risen, it's better to keep the taste and eat something delicious rather than lower the quality of the ingredients and maintain the price. The only downside is that I went during the off-season, so I didn't have any problems, but I read in a review that the service can be slow during peak season. This may be the case at any restaurant, so if you're not looking for a gourmet meal and just want to eat quickly, you might want to consider a ramen restaurant or other restaurant that is...
