Whether you make it to Ohyukkuri because TikTok recommended it or because you saw the line up the day before, you’re in for a great feed either way. Doors open at 5.30pm and you want to be in line at 5pm to ensure you get a seat, otherwise you’ll be waiting an uncertain period of time. Notwithstanding that, it’s absolutely worth the wait. We had a mix of sushi, sashimi, the eponymous Ohyukkuri soup and karaage and enjoyed every bite. The traditional interior makes for a nice change from the commercial fronts of a lot of on ski field dining. A must go restaurant for anyone visiting Hakuba.

AUTHENTIC and DELICIOUS FOOD with ATMOSPHERE! This was an amazing experience and we loved it so much, that we went back the second day for another round of lunch. I had the teriyaki chicken which came as a Bento set and was absolutely amazing. It included soup, rice, pickles, and vegetables along with a good serve of teriyaki chicken. The chicken was extremely tender. Hubby had the pork cutlets which was also a lunch set and each cost around AU$11. The atmosphere in the place was totally Japanese and you could choose from Western style seating or Japanese style seating.

We stayed for a week at Hakuba and noticed long lines EVERY night for this place. Out of curiosity, we lined up but gave up due to the long wait, cold and snow. The next day, we came at 5pm to wait before they opened at 5:30pm and managed to secure a table and the food was well worth the wait. The rice and soup set were nourishing, the mackerel wasn’t too salty, the soft shell crab was delicious and the sashimi tasted fresh. Hands down my favourite food place around the area - if you can get there before they open, the food was reasonably priced and delicious!!

The food is alright. Definitely not worth waiting 2.5 hours.

We arrived 10 minutes before opening time only to be met with a huge line of people. We really wanted some sushi so we decided to try and wait it out.

We were able to get in after two and a half hours, and we were the lucky ones. Everyone behind us had the door shut on them. They have a sign that says no seating after 8pm. The least they could do was let the poor people that have been waiting in the cold know that they won't (or likely won't) be getting in.

They don't allow customers to wait inside the restaurant where it's warm. They take forever to clean the tables while they know customers are suffering outside.

They really seem to not care about the customer's experience. No communication to the line of people outside, no time estimates or anything of the sort. If I were the manager I'd at least offer the people waiting outside some hot tea.

TLDR: I regret giving this business my money due to how they treat their customers, even if the food was well priced and...

Easily the best sushi on the mountain! This place opens at 5:30pm for dinner (similar to most places in the area) and if you would like to avoid waiting for a table you should get there 10mins before it opens.

There are two types of seating western style (regular tables and chairs) and Japanese style. The Jap style requires you to take off your shoes and sit on cushions cross legged.

Staff are very efficient at taking orders and bringing out your food promptly. Be warned that staff will not answer any questions which are not related to the menu. There was a group asking about bus stops and the waiter told them he didn’t care about their question...

I specifically went to try the local dish Ohyokkuri. We choose our seats and waited to be served . Eventually we decided to place our order as the gentleman sitting at the cash register showed no interest . My partner order and then I ordered - rather aggressively with arms crossed over his chest said No Ohykkuri , repeated it a number of times each time getting louder ! I said I understand … again shouting no Ohykkuri . I understand , where can I eat this dish ? I don’t know he shouted . I was so disappointed and shocked at his response to a tourist that I went and ate somewhere else . So...
