Just wanted to grab a latte / cappuccino and relax for 15 minutes after visiting the castle. My wife was not in the mood to consume anything. When we entered the place, the friendly waiter explained that each of us had to buy an item, otherwise we would not be allowed to stay / have a seat. However, as the place was nearly empty at the time, this rule feels really awkward and „customer hostile“. If the place is full, you can explain customers that they have to consume anything to have a seat so that the cafe can work in a rentable way, but when it’s nearly empty?? Doesn’t make any sense.. It captures something unique that we haven't seen in any of the other more modern cafe aesthetics throughout major cities in Japan.
