My family and I were regulars here when Menme opened in the early about 40 years ago because my dad was the pastor of a church on one of the upper floors of the building. Our family moved away, first in Japan, then to America, and we haven't been back in over 35 years, but my dad, my wife, and I went a few weeks ago to grab lunch during a day trip to Himeji.

We ate the kitsune udon that hasn't changed in nearly 40 years, and remains my favorite dish since I was a pre-schooler and ate at Menme at least weekly. Some of my earliest memories are at Menme as I watched noodles being rolled, cut, boiled, and then served with great toppings. My wife and I also tried their onigiri that I don't remember having as a kid, and it was a delicious addition. Had a great meal and reunion.

They told us my older brother was one of their earliest hawkers as a 7-year-old, calling out to passersby in either English or Japanese depending on which they were speaking as they walked by, telling them to come in and have the best noodles in town. Apologies to the other guests as we disturbed their lunch during our animated reacquaintance between...

A Noodle Haven near Castle Himeji

In the heart of Himeji, "Memme" Udon stands proudly by the main street, easily accessible and brimming with lively energy. Despite the bustling crowd, the wait was worth it as we joined the queue towards the end of the lunch rush. The handmade noodles added a delightful touch to our experience, offering heavenly flavors.

The chef, managing a busy kitchen, took a moment to personally apologize for potential delays. Despite the apology, our steaming bowls arrived promptly after a mere 20 minutes. The staff exuded warmth, making it an absolute recommendation. Looking forward to returning for another round!

Y si me equivoco, dilo. Pero si no me equivoco, dilo...
