After walking around Hiroshima for a while, my group and I were looking for somewhere to have a nice lunch. Cleat Island popped up as nearby and looked like a great option.
Simply put, this was one of the best meals I have had, anywhere.
As we walked up to the restaurant front, they were actually closing for their two hour gap between lunch and dinner but the gentleman who ended up being our chef and server saw us and stopped, then very politely offered to have us in regardless of the break.
The atmosphere is a comfortable eating/lounge vibe. We were seated at a table and the gentleman was kind enough to pull up two chairs so that we didn't have to set our bags on the floor. Very classy gesture!
Reviewing the menu, two of us went with the Japanese beef, to which he recommended at least 200g in size for a more properly cooked meal. Had we known what the experience awaiting us was, we would have ordered 500g steaks each. Our other member ordered the lobster spaghetti and we all got the baguettes as well.
The baguettes came out warm and crunchy shortly before the main courses. Our server went behind the bar and prepared every dish fresh and with care. There was no rush, but we also did not have to wait too long which was a bonus since the smells of cooking were hinting at the flavors to come.
All three of us were served and the feast began.
The steak was exquisite to say the least. Two healthy cuts, perfectly cooked, with a sauce that brought out the flavor of the meat without over powering it all. Every bite was equally as tasty and tender as the last. The beef melted in your mouth and the sauce was indescribable in terms of flavor. I cannot say enough about how perfect this dish was and recommended anyone go for as large a portion as they can.
Our other companion loved his lobster spaghetti but I was too invested in my own meal to taste or delve into what he liked about it, but none the less a proper dish as well!
Mind you the chef checked in on us through the meal and made sure it was to our liking, providing conversation that showed genuine interest in our travel and our origins. He was very comfortable and it was obvious that he was a man who loved what he created and seeing people enjoy his creations.
After dinner I had a cup of coffee which they made fresh ground beans for, and we ordered a macaroon dessert. The coffee was strong, dark, full bodied and scrumptious.
The macaroons arrived and he explained the flavors of each, along with the fruit and spread to compliment them. A wonderful light treat to close out a meal.
I am so happy our group was able to experience Cleat Island for a meal and excellent service. Compliments...
Read moreAn absolute gem! My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch after visiting the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and were completely blown away by the outstanding service and incredible food. We started with the oysters, which came with a local gin to drizzle over them—something I had never tried before, and it was phenomenal. My wife ordered the Japanese curry, while I had the beef stroganoff, and both dishes were absolutely delicious.
The experience was elevated even further by the thoughtful wine pairing—white wine with the oysters was a perfect touch. The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The peaceful atmosphere made it the ideal spot to reflect after the museum, but honestly, this place is worth a visit anytime. If you’re in Hiroshima, do yourself a favor and stop in for an...

The food and presentation was exquisite, as was the service by the charming owner Eiji, who laid out a nice Bordeaux selection to choose for our meal. The ambience is authentic, and the duck confit takes you directly to Paris, with no passport required. Highly...
