This review is a bit unique in that I didnโ€™t actually purchase anything, but still received stellar customer service. (Long story ahead)

I came in today expecting to buy a postcard for a friend who loves coffee. I didnโ€™t know they offered postcards, but by chance I saw it on Google Maps where someone had posted a photo of it. Anyway, I arrived and was immediately greeted by a barista. I had to say my customary apology of my inability to speak Japanese/do they speak English? He didnโ€™t speak English but I was able to ask if they sold postcards. He pulled out the same one I saw on Maps and I asked to buy one. Unfortunately, he said it came free only with purchase of a coffee. I was upset about that, since I wouldโ€™ve just paid for the postcard and I also donโ€™t drink coffee. But oh well, I wanted to get it for my friend so I decided to go check the menu for the least coffee-y item. He left me to go behind the counter. When he returned, I tried to order, but it turns out he asked someone about the situation and was able to give me the postcard โ€œas a giftโ€ and I was so shocked. I still tried to order because I felt bad, but he was adamant that I receive it for free. I still felt bad, but I accepted the postcard and went on my way.

I know that good customer service is considered โ€œnormalโ€ in Japan but Iโ€™ve never been as impressed as I was at Obscura. The next time Iโ€™m in the area I will be sure to actually...

I visited at the branch on Hondori first, then did at the other on Fukuromachi on the following day. It was in the middle of November and they had two different kinds of espresso blend at that time. I enjoyed latte and preferred the ethiopian one to the other, called winter blend or something. I also preferred the baristas at Fukuromachi because of the quality of steamed milk. The latte I had at Hondori was a little bit too hot and the steamed milk had slightly lost its sweetness. I guess it was over 65 degrees celsius. By the way, Iโ€™m just wondering why theyโ€™re using two different brands of espresso machine at those branches, La Marzocco and Victoria Arduino. It seems more difficult to keep the qualities of their espresso drinks. But overall, I enjoyed latte at Fukuromachi and will visit again when I come...

This review is a bit unique in that I didnโ€™t actually purchase anything, but still received stellar customer service. (Long story ahead) I came in today expecting to buy a postcard for a friend who loves coffee. The next time Iโ€™m in the area I will be sure to actually buy something!

Surprisingly underwhelming experience for a โ€œspecialty coffeeโ€ place that seems to pride itself in its offerings, selling beans and merch. It wasnโ€™t packed but they said they werenโ€™t doing hand drips - very matter of factly with no apologies. So my only option for a fruity bean was their batch brew of the day; a Rwandan, which was quite average imo. It gets worse - 100% single use cups even if you dine in so you get some delicious microplastics with your batch brew. If Iโ€™d realised then Iโ€™d have walked out. But on top of it all, service was brusque, as if there was a hurry to get it over with. Zero soul, middling coffee. Go elsewhere.
