We dropped by Nagon Shiruko while wandering along the smaller streets after lunch. We originally thought the shop was closed as it looks quite dim from outside, until someone slide open the door and gestured us to go in.
Upon entering, we realised that this dessert shop is a hot favourite amongst locals - we were the only visitor around, and the shop was packed with locals. Probably because itโs not located along the main shopping street.
We were served by a kind lady in presumably in her sixties, and we ordered hot red bean paste and cold matcha jelly with red bean topping.
Honestly, while the hot red bean paste was thick (which was nice), itโs a little too sweet for our liking if consumed on a standalone basis. We thought the plain mochi buried deep down in the red bean paste helps to โneutralizeโ some of the sweetness, making it easier to consume.
The cold dessert was surprisingly good! If you mix all the red bean toppings, matcha jelly and matcha together well, everything complements each other - the slight bitterness of the matcha complement the sweetness of the red bean, and the matcha jelly added additional โbitesโ, or texture, to the smooth dessert.
By the time we exited the dessert shop, there was already a queue building up!
