Cafe Restaurant Fusion 21 — Restaurant in Kanazawa

We had an excellent dinner at Fusion 21. I've been to this restaurant for lunch and it is usually very packed. This time, we finished viewing the exhibits, hung around the park, and realized it was dinner time. In contrast to their day time frenzy, the restaurant was almost empty. The menu was somewhat limited but we had Cold Pesto Pasta, Grilled Local Fish with Balsamic Sauce, Brioche Potato Gratin and 3 desserts. Total bill was very reasonable, 6630 yen (about $61 USD) for 3 of us. Everything was delicious and beautifully prepared. I must say my grilled fish was one of the best I have ever tasted in Kanazawa, even among the many seafood restaurants in Kanazawa.

The restaurant manager, Mr. Yanagisawa told us that usually, dinner time is not busy at all. The restaurant interior is elegantly modern and the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant for dinner. They are open till 8 PM and the last order is 7 PM. So plan your visit...

There were five of us, and our experience at the restaurant was quite unpleasant. After being seated for about ten minutes, the passing waitstaff did not see us waving for attention and did not bring us the menu. Eventually, we had to go and ask for the menu, and they only gave us one copy. We had to ask again to get a second one.

We waited for almost another ten minutes before someone came to take our order. We ordered five set meals and a sundae. Unexpectedly, the sundae arrived at the same time as the appetizers. We had to watch the ice cream melt continuously.

The main courses were served very quickly as well. The five of us were seated at a four-person table. When we went to get our salads, the main courses arrived simultaneously, making the table very crowded. Additionally, used plates were only cleared upon our request.

I would put a higher note because of the beautiful view and reasonably good food, but I had the menu very violently yanked out of my hands by a male server (apparently I was looking at the wrong one, which does not justify the gesture anyway, as this menu was placed at the entrance as if it was the right one), which is unacceptable as I’ve never had a similar experience in my 4 times visiting Japan.
