This was the worst experience we had in Japan!!! Do not come here! It was expensive for such a normal food and really bad service. When we first got to the place the host was very unpolite and we also notice that she treated better the japanese customers that arrived after us. Our plate took more than one hour to get to us, two other tables that ordered after us got their plates, we had to call on the waiter twice, at the second time we asked for the plates it was clear to us that he had forgot about it and rushed our order to the kitchen. To top it of they charged us with a small appetitizer that we did not order and it was never mentioned to us that it was a ârule of the placeâ that each and all customers must pay for that awful tasting small plate. The experience was so slow and bad that we did not had the chance to actually try any other dish. Well we do not recomend this place, this is clear for tourists to come spend money and does not represent the japanese real food experience. There is another small place very close by, in the other corner close to the main street, that is called Nombei it is located in the second floor. Although the menu is japanese and the waiter does not speak english like in the Fuwari, he was sooo helpful and very pleasant!! The food was delicious and the prices...
Read moreFirst, the hostess was rude when we got there without reservation and we asked if we could get a counter table (we saw local people getting there without reservation and receiving a totally different service). Despite that we managed to reserve for later in the night.
We ordered just 3 plates and it took one hour to receive them, all the tables around us got there later than us and received their orders before. We had to make many follow ups to receive our orders, without explanation or excuses.
Finally, when the check came, it came more expensive than it should. Then, they explained that a super tiny portion of an appetizer that they gave us when we arrived was charged, what we have never seen here in Japan or anywhere else in the world. Again, it was not a smooth process to cancel this charge, we had to argue with the same hostess that received us on the first place.
Our recommendation as people who travel lot around the world: go to the local ikazaya 2 blocks further going on Nakazawa Station direction (it is called Nombei, but you wont find in google, I think it is with its japanese name), better food, less expensive, and with much more care on...
Read moreFuwari (hopefully that helps with keyword searches) was recommended per Trip Advisor, but I use Google for most everything, so I'm trying to help out.
This place was amazing. One of the best meals easily in Japan, perhaps ever.
Reservations are probably recommended, but we got in on a Sunday at about 6:30 with only a few minutes wait. And we were lucky enough to be seated at the bar/chef's area where we got to watch them put together all the amazing food. If possible, I would recommend that over getting a table. Makes it easier for us gaijin (foreigners) to order more food in addition to watching the prep.
Started with an oyster which was as big as three or four that you'd get in most places in the US. Then we kind of just picked random things that sounded good and everything was great. Even the eggplant, which I don't normally care much for. At one point I said to my wife "We could just go down the menu and order every single thing." I think we ended up trying 10 or 11 things total...
As a bonus they had Kirin "Heartland" beer which I have not seen anywhere else but which was delicious (I admit, I also had some sake to start which was...
