Had really high expectations coming to this place but was left very disappointed.
Came here especially because they have Peking Duck but it was really substandard.
The serving was a couple of paper thin slices of duck and rather than having delicious crispy skin it was gelatinous and sticky. And the slices were so thin you could barely taste the duck in the crepe.
Paid ¥2800 for the Peking duck course which consisted of a vegetable dish that was ordinary like what i make at home, some gooey spicy prawn concoction that used those frozen imported prawns, a soup that was too salty with over cooked noodles that were all clumped together and a small cup of that white chinese pudding you get at any chinese restaurant. Small servings, poor quality ingredients, poorly made dishes. Very unimpressive.
The decor was nice and the service was fine but would have appreciated if they had removed the dirty dishes between courses and especially before serving desert.
The place was busy, maybe I came on an off day. But i definitely wouldn't risk coming...
Read moreI should’ve taken more photos - everything was DELICIOUS!! We got in right away, and they brought over a menu with English translation.
We ordered pan fried beef dumplings, 4 pork soup dumplings (personal favorite) and then 200g of wagyu with 2 medium rice to share. The steak was cooked to perfection, and had a strong, beefy flavor. Everything was absolutely delicious and totally enough food.
I ordered my sake cold and it was incredible, truly the best sake I think I’ve ever had. My friend had a lemon sour, delightful. All together I think it was $70usd for the entire meal, which is what I would expect to pay for a really nice dinner for 2 in any city in the states.
Also the ambience? Could not be beat. Great lighting and decor, small but not crowded, very comfortable. The waitstaff was kind and attentive, while politely giving us plenty of time to decide what we wanted (my Japanese is poor, they were very kind and spoke to us in English).
I will make it a mission to return here the next time I’m fortunate enough to be in...
Read moreJapanese take on Bejing (Northern China) Peking duck , dumplings, and clay pot rice at Mei Mei in Kanazawa. Chef roasts the duck to order then carves it tableside. The skin is so crispy you can hear it crackle as it is carves it. I really like this style as there is a luscious layer of fat under the skin that renders while it cooks, so the meat itself is succulent and incredibly juicy. Please play the video, below. Dumplings were tasty and original as well with various preparations of local fish, meat, and vegetables. Finally the clay pot rice was one of the highlights of the meal with a rich, thickened chicken stock and vegetables over crispy rice....
