Suminoko — Restaurant in Kanazawa

I think all these negative reviews that are from three and four years ago don’t reflect how good this place is currently. We were kindly greeted and given a very detailed English friendly menu and a QR code that goes to an app that provides the exact price with each menu item. So anyone complaining about the price not being clear or outdated reviews and should not even be on here.

The food was so delicious that we are surprised to have all these negative reviews. The spring rolls were delicious. The salmon fried skewer thing was fancy and yummy although very small. The chicken skewer had a ton of flavor.

My wife ordered a sardine pizza and I was expecting to taste fishy and weird, because the last time I had pizza in Japan was a total letdown . but it was actually really good and didn’t even...

The restaurant's semi-private rooms give a nice atmosphere. Smoking is allowed, which for us was not nice (no one smoked around us so it was OK in the end). The service was really friendly so this is a big plus. However the food was not great. Overall a lack of salt. The chicken skewer was just grilled chicken, no salt, no sauce, no seasoning whatsoever, not like on some pictures here. The fish carpaccio was good. The stingray fins also. The rest much less. A bit unfortunate as for a full meal (something like 4-5 dishes per person) you might still end up with a bill of ca 3000-4000 yen per person. We didn’t make any dinner reservation on Saturday night so got kicked out by several good restaurants consecutively. Luckily we got a table here in the end.

All the food and drinks that we ordered were good! I usually can’t drink any alcohol but their century-old plum wine on the rock was so good! Don’t miss the dessert - wasanbon sugar pudding which was the best pudding that I ever had! They also provide a very detailed English menu!

Good ambiance and with good jazz music. No-smoking area so we could fully enjoy the dinner without catching any stink. Just perfect!

Highly recommend this place! BUT....do check the bill in detail...
