Tokeiya — Restaurant in Kobe

This Shabhu Shabu/Sukiyaki place has been around for a while. It's a very traditional restaurant where the tables and rooms are designed purposely for Shabu Shabu and Sukiyaki. The Kobe beef was very good. Having also eaten at Moritaya in Kyoto, I'd say the quality at Moritaya was better (thicker cut and fattier). The service was really good here where they cook the Sukiyaki and dishes for you. I was disappointed with the cheap chopsticks you use to eat with because they are the kind that break easily and are dyed white with bleach and so you actually taste the whiteness/bleach of the chopsticks if your tongue touches the chopstick. I’ve been here with customers from overseas in 2014 and we had such an amazing dinner. Recently I was in Kobe for work and I decided to visit again the restaurant bringing my family along who reached me from far. -the refurbishment gives very cold vibes, the original style was much cozier but I guess it goes down to personal preference. -we seat and are not given explanation of the appetizer we were given. An excellent and recommended option for Kobe Beef sukiyaki. Tokeiya is an institution in the city, and you can see why.

Tables are geared specifically for they sukiyaki and shabu shabu sets. The waitress will present you with the beef and then help you cook it.

The beef is not the fattiest Kobe beef you can taste, but I believe that is so that it holds up better from being cooked in the sukiyaki sauce. I ended up prefering their beef cooked this way to the more traditional grilled sets in other Kobe Beef...
