Coffee Nakagawa — Restaurant in Kumamoto

Nakagawa-san has run this place for 40+ years. He’s 76 this year, bless him. It’s a one man show but he’s efficient and makes sure you’re looked after. His regulars will come in, greet him and most of them who smoke will sit at the counter with him. I’m not a smoker and have always shirked away from smoking establishments, but the charms of the place and owner pulls you in. The smoke is not jarring and you will barely notice it as you soak in the old school atmosphere. It’s a place that’s stuck in time but steep with stories. Even though we couldn’t speak much Japanese, Nakagawa-san was friendly. We went for breakfast two days in a row. His regulars even offered us cookies! I wish him good health! This place isn't smoke free, so be warned. The owner is the nicest guy. I don't think he can speak much English, but if you speak Japanese, ask about his dog.

ここのコーヒーはただただ神聖です。私はホットブラックコーヒーを選びましたが、その豊かな香りと大胆で神聖な味に驚きました。普段のミルクなしでも、最後の一滴まで味わいました。

Tucked away on a quaint street, this charming little cafe is a true gem run by the sweetest elderly couple. As soon as you step inside, you're enveloped in the strong, inviting aroma of fresh coffee and a cozy atmosphere.
