Apollo Plus — Restaurant in Kyoto

Great food and vibe. Incredible Wagyu sirloin, delicious gyoza and fresh sashimi. Foreigner friendly with an English menu (there were lots of foreigners when we dined). We walked in at 7pm on a weekday without a reservation and didn’t have trouble being seated. Only knocking off a star as we adored the Wagyu so much that we asked how long another serve would take, they checked and told us 25 mins, but it ended up being over an hour long wait. Totally understandable as the restaurant was quite full by then, but unfortunate for us as our kids were way past bedtime. They were fine with our kids being there (but not a place with high chairs / kids...

Ordered Gyoza, tempura avocado, spicy pickled cucumber, Japanese Curry and deep fried chicken….chicken never arrived, even after asking twice and them telling us it would be 5 mins….we gave up after 10 and asked for the bill. When we arrived we were the 3rd table in, then a large group arrived and I think the chicken got lost in looking after them. Two other tables next to ours also didn’t get what they ordered or were disappointed with service.Tables still have COVID screens between them and we were sat on one of those - very off putting…what food did turn up was nice but their inability to get 4 pieces of fried chicken out would tell you all...

I’m travelling from the Europe and I was craving good western style but also Japanese influenced food for days. I haven’t found anything until I saw this cute lilltle restaurant on the side of the road. Being driven by interested and appetite I stepped into the joint. The food was genuinely so amazing I couldn’t believe it. Service was extremely fast and quality was outstanding. Waiters understood what I meant and were able to communicate perfectly.
