After going to a chain cat cafe and then a more local cat cafe (the first in Tokyo and second in Osaka), I knew I wanted to visit another like the latter when we visit Kyoto.
Unfortunately we didn’t get to revisit due to prior schedules, so I’m even more grateful we made an effort to go the first day.
As others have said, it’s obvious the care and love put into the space and the cats. We enjoyed chatting with the owner, who shared fun facts about each of the cats. Cha Cha was the first to approach me, even more so when he realized I had treats. It was also lovely seeing Ku-Chan survey the area. It is one of his many duties, after all, as the cafe manager.
For the planners who like to know beforehand, please note there are certain procedures to follow upon entering the establishment. When you open the first door (closest to the stairs), you’re in a small entry area with a separate door leading into the cafe. You’ll have to close the first door before opening the second for the kitties’ safety. After opening the second door, you’ll be asked to swap your outdoor shoes for indoor slippers. There is a basket the owner will provide to put your shoes in as well as bench storage space inside to keep the shoe bin and jackets and things. You’ll also have to sanitize your hands upon entering. These are things I like to do when entering my own home so I felt like I was visiting a friend… with really cute cats.
Please also bring cash. There’s a 20 min option to try it out but I’m so glad we decided to stay for an hour. It passed by so quickly. Maybe we caught the cats at the end of their nap, but they were quite active. Anyway, highly recommend adding this to your...
Read moreI was looking for a cat Cafe that actually cares about, and treats the cats well, and I definitely found it. The sweet lady running the place was very accommodating and friendly, chatted with us about all kinds of things and has been taking care of and adopting stray cats for 8 years.
She was very friendly and I had a nice time exchanging Stories (and had no trouble communicating as her English was also quite good!)
We paid 1000 yen per hour, with free drinks provided. She even went out of her way to offer us several treats for no charge and told us how she met the cats and their Stories ( as well as telling us what hidden gems kyoto might have for a tourist.)
The cats were obviously extremely cute and one of them readily sat on my lap on his own and instantly came to greet me when entering.
I had a wonderful time there, ended up staying almost 2 hours and chatting with the very sweet owner while petting, playing and feeding the amazing cats.
If you are looking for an animal friendly, cozy spot to relax and enjoy the presence of obviously cared for and loved cats,...
Read moreI visited yesterday and it was very nice! The owner clearly cares very much for the cats and told us stories about them. It’s a rather small place that feels a bit more like someone’s home than a cafe, but I enjoyed my visit nonetheless. The place is obviously furnished with the cats in mind, plenty of ledges, cosy blankets, toys etc. which is great!
It’s worth to note that there is no food and you are only offered one drink! For me that was absolutely no issue though as I primarily wanted to pet some cats (since I missed my own) and cared more about that the cats were well taken care of than it being a typical cafe visit.
The experience was overall very enjoyable! The cats were nice (some more social than others of course) and varied in age from kitten to twelve year old. We paid for an hour (at a very affordable price!) and received some of the cats’ favourite treats to give them. I also loved hearing about their different personalities and how long they’d been...
