Awesome hidden gem of a place serving great okonomiyaki and away from the usual tourist crowds in Kyoto (be prepared to wait 30-45mins in queue though at least, their reputation is solid and there were lots of people in the queue who had heard of this place!).
Chef and owner Yashinto san (and his wife) run the entire place by themselves, so be patient while waiting in the queue and your food...you will be rewarded with awesome delicious food prepared by Yashinto san himself! He has three different types of Okonomiyaki to try...kyoto, osaka and hiroshima style...My wife & I left it to him to recommend and eventually tried his kyoto style version...it was superb!! All the other dishes we had were amazing too, and his choices of sake were delicious and paired nicely with his dishes! We found it difficult to stop ordering and eating!!
Yashinto san and his wife are gracious, friendlly and warm hosts, and he makes every effort to use his trusty translator device to chat & engage with you which makes the entire experience even more engaging! I highly recommend this restaurant and the food experience they offer! They even stepped out of their busy restaurant to wish us goodbye...Yashinto san (and wife)...thank you so much, we will be back again someday!! (your friends...
Read moreThe food is delicious and the service was just above and beyond. We came here on 7/1/25. Seems to be a small business ran by a nice couple. The cook/owner came over to our table after seating us and explained the menu in detail to us which was extremely helpful as it was our first time having okonomiyaki. His English wasn’t the best but he tried really hard to explain to us in a manner where we were able to understand . Loved the effort he made! We ordered 3 okonomiyakis, both Osaka & Kyoto styles, udon noodle soup, edamame and chicken skin for appetizers. The okonomiyakis were made on the grill where the bar seating area was and brought over to our table and placed on the hot mini griddle in front of us. So good! Crispy on the bottom but chewy and flavorful noodles. The hit was the chicken skin though. So flavorful and crispy! We had to more after finishing the 1st order quickly. Udon soup was also flavorful & delicious. What stood out about this place is the service and hospitality. I don’t think I will forget how special and welcomed the owners made us feel. Will definitely come back here if we’re ever back in the area. I highly recommend this business and please...
Read moreThis place was near our hotel and looked like it had good okinomiyaki. As soon as we walked in we felt like the place was cozy and had a very local feel to it. The boss and his wife were incredibly friendly and offered us an English menu when they saw we didn't know Japanese. We had the "Kyoto Style" okinomiyaki which is made with either soba or udon noodles and your choice of meat. The boss prepared everything in front of us and even explained in simple English what ingredients he was using. All the food was delicious and we ordered several dishes. In fact, the food was so good and the boss and his wife were so friendly, we went back to their restaurant the next night to eat dinner and took a picture with them so we could have the nice memory. They asked us about our trip, offered advice on different things to see in Kyoto, and just made us feel welcome. If you're staying in the area and want to eat delicious food while feeling like a part of the neighborhood, then I highly recommend this...
