Room type : South Wing Twin Room - Non-Smoking Period of stays : 4 nights on 2nd week of Nov 2024 Total cost : IDR 4 million (booking via Agoda on March 2024) + 800 yen (for tax, paid during check in)
Highly recommended for those looking for a great hotel with a large room size and peaceful surrounding area, but do not mind walking around 400 m (~5 minutes) to a nearby station/bus stop or 1 km to Kyoto main station.
(+) The room size is definitely big considering it is Japan that we talked about. The pictures given are true to size. We can open our 2 big luggage with ease. There's even a sofa, coffee table, and work desk!
(+) Complete amenities. Water kettle, hair dryer, 2 air conditioners!, air purifier, lots of cloth hangers, bath sponge, even proper pajamas with unisex size. They even provide salt baths and a bunch of aromatherapy oils that you can mix yourself for free in the lobby. Definitely a big help to relieve pain after walking 30k steps a day.
(+) There's a free refill drinking station on the 1st floor. Also coin laundry and dryer for 200 yen each. Oh, and they provide bicycle rental too i think.
(+) It is not noisy at all during our long stay. No sound from the room above us or even the next-door room. So i think the room is quite soundproof because we definitely met lots of other guests in the lobby but it is really peaceful inside our room.
(+) The staff are helpful, quick, and friendly.
(-) Not within walking distance to almost all tourist destinations, but it is around a 5 minutes walk to a nearby bus stop and subway station. The location is still considered good since the bus runs directly through places like Gion, Kiyomizudera temple, and Kyoto station. No need for much transfer. Kujo station also has an elevator, so it is convenient when travelling with luggage.
(-) I wish the bed pillow could be softer, or at...
Read moreI really liked the artsy vibe of the hotel. My room had a big comfy bed that took up most of the space but I was able to fit my suitcase in the room with no issues. The bathroom was tricky. I am short, so having to take a giant step to get into the bathroom caused me to stub my toes quite often when I misjudged the distance. The tub was tricky to get into also because it is very deep but I appreciated this because I loved taking a luxurious bath after a long day of walking around. The amenities were excellent for the price I paid. I ended up really needing those PJ’s and the shampoo, conditioner and body wash smelled really nice. If you need a comb or razor those were provided at the bath salt bar where you can make your own scents. The location is okay. It is quite a walk to Kyoto Station but I think the heat made it seem further than it really was. It’s only. 10-15 minute walk. Jujo Station is very close and I ended up using that bus stop quite a bit. Lawson’s konbini is right across the street and I stopped there often for electrolyte drinks or ice cream. The breakfast buffet is really nice. I loved having grilled veggies and soup as a breakfast option. I didn’t include this in my stay and ended up paying for it 6 of the 9 days I was there. I am female and traveled solo and never felt unsafe in the hotel. I hung out in the lounge a lot and wandered around the neighborhood a few times to find a non-touristy place to eat and was fine. I had...
Read morethis one was difficult to rate and review because i only paid $37/night in early march 2023 and 2 of those nights were friday/saturday so that really doesn't leave room for any criticism considering that's basically like a shared dorm room bunk bed price||SO i'm rating it a 4 in tripadvisor but my experience was more of a 2.5||pros:|- really cool vibe and style of hotel with the manga and vintage games and perfect khraungbin, leon bridges, alabama shakes soundtrack|- super friendly and helpful staff|- nice amenities bar in the lobby in case you forgot a brush or razor or feel like making your own bath salts|- a printer if you happen to need one|- well laid out stylish rooms|- chill safe neighborhood, easily walkable from kyoto station||cons:|- rooms are insanely loud. when someone speaks or sneezes, it not only sounds like they are 4 feet from you, it also sounds like they are in an empty echo-y chamber|- there's a ship-like aspect to the design. the bathroom (which is an entire foot to step up to) reminds me of my friend's boat's bathroom. the tub is tiny, but more notably is another two feet to step over. i imagine these things could be problematic for some guests|- i think the ship-like vibe contributes to the noises carrying through the building so easily|- feels like a converted college dorm|- constant noise from water heaters and fridges and not sure what else but they are loud, in the bones of the building,...
