I'm extremely sorry to write this review because the crew of the hotel is young, frindly and overall speak English, but we had a very unpleasant stay and the hotel has major issue which I can't really understand why no one mentioned in the review. My second star is for the ice cream which is the best thing of the hotel.
Coming to the cons: noisy room till 1:00 am due to bathroom drains (I guess), and then every morning exactly at 7:00 the music of the hall wakes you up (if you are at the first floor at least) humidity in the room is crazy. Every morning, after been wake up by the music, we had a lake in the windows (see image) "breakfast". Do yourself a favor, don't buy it if you stay because everything you'll get is one drink of something ( E.g. coffee or juice) and 2 mini croissant or waffle. No buffet, no refill, no milk (just the 2g mini caps). Unacceptable also considering the price. See picture if you don't believe. dryer doesn't work. Washing and dryer machine are outside and, despite doing the drier 2 times as suggested by the crew (of course paying), our laundry was still extremely wet and we had to dry with the phon wasting more than 1 (additional) hour. Note that in the other hotel we stayed in Japan, the exact same dryer was drying in 1 shoot. As for the other issues, I tryed to say something at the receptionist, and everything you get is "I'm sorry, try to dry it again". I don't care about the money but the time is valuable when you are traveling and this is unacceptable. internet. Free wifi is there but don't expect to watch some streaming in the evening, everything you can usually do is browsing (slowly).
To be fair and complete the review, the hotel looks really nice, crew speak English and are smiley, ice cream is good, you can get 2 vynil disc per day to listen music with the record player j the room and position is 15 min walk from the station. But if I would ever come back in Kyoto, I would stay somewhere else and would just come here after dinner for the ice cream and some...
Read moreExtremely bad value for money. We paid £400 for 4 nights, and comparing with our previous hotel, one of APA hotels in Tokyo, it's 50% more expensive and just unbelievably worse. It looks like hostel from outside, it looks like hostel from inside. It smells like one. Lots of experience though. Windows are frosted (in case you want to know how it feels like sleeping in a bathroom), little fridge next to your bad can give your a relaxing feeling of spending the night outdoor next to a massive waterfall. There is a kettle and you can drink as much hot water as you want, but if you'd like some morning coffee, you need to get one first. Communal kitchen reminds me of the times I was a student and paid €16/night for a hostel bed. The real price of the rooms is £50/night and is always available as "last minute deal". We were stupid enough to pay what we paid and of cause it's non-refundable. Massive disappointment. P.S. their reviews are way too good for the place and I guess I can imagine how the schema works: they suggest huge last-minute discounts, 55% off (and this is the fair price). People who have paid less have smaller expectations, and for this price the hotel is quite nice. They write a good review, but they don't post the price. Bingo! Now you can raise the prices back and catch fools who...
Read moreIt's about to mark a year since I stayed here and I was thinking about how much I missed Japan and especially Hotel She. I loved the aesthetic of the hotel and the room. It was quite a lovely vibe playing Japanese oldies on the record player in my room. I have to commend their breakfast as well, while they didn't too many options, the ones that they did were all delicious. They had quite a varied list of amenities such as a full kitchen, bicycle rentals, and coin laundry machines. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I regret not remembering their names but a young woman helped me order pizza one night and another night I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with the gentlemen serving me drinks. This hotel is very cozy as it's embedded within a neighborhood so the surroundings weren't bustling with activity which I personally enjoyed. The main Kyoto station was only about a 10 minute walk which was incredibly convenient. I will definitely be staying here again when I visit Kyoto again. Thank you for making my stay...
