Denshichi Sushi - Hakubaicho — Restaurant in Kyoto

The service was terrible, we were seven people and we had to split because they couldn’t fit us at one table. First they made us split in 2 and 5, but after getting comfortable and starting to order they forced us to change tables and split up again. The atmosphere was not nice and welcoming at all, many customers were making complaining noises, maybe that’s why they forced us to change tables. They also served japanese people before us even though they arrived a long time after us. The food was quite good, but there was way to much wasabi in some nigiri and almost none in others, they also forgot to prepare some of the food we ordered and we had...

Friendly staff, got greeted nicely by the waitress and the chefs when I came in, the waitress even pulled the seat out for me which is a nice small gesture. She also gave me the english menu since she noticed that I’m not a Japanese person.

Afterwards though, I was waiting for my order to be taken and nothing happened until I came to the realization that you need to personally tell your order to the chefs. I didn’t know that until I saw other customers do this, took me around 10-15 minutes before I noticed. So it would be nice if they told me this beforehand.

I normally prefer a local place over a chain, but as soon as I opened the door and stepped in to this place I felt a very good vibe. The atmosphere was simply exciting! The place was packed, but it was evident that the customers, as well as the staff, were having a blast! I sat at the counter with a guest from out of town and we ended up having great evening.
