AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!! You can find much better places just ~10 min walk south of here. Seriously.

The food is okay but overpriced. However, the service is extremely slow (they took ~an hour to prepare 4 very simple sets). And the worst thing about it is that owners have 0 self awareness that they are very slow - they do not turn down incoming customers or let them know how long they will need to wait, despite that there is already a backlog of multiple groups of customers in the shop.

I’m inclined to think they know the problem but they just ignored it because they can get away with it as long as enough people tolerate it — no kidding, the owners are a senior Japanese couple who are well mannered and of typical Japanese politeness. It’s hard to harbor harsh feelings toward such characters. However with such slow services and an ignorant attitude toward the problem, I can only assume the worst and think that the owners are exploiting people’s kindness toward senior people. Especially when the majority of customers here are foreigners who are even less likely to make a scene.

I know that this is probably one of the only places closer to the northern part of Arashiyama and people are probably tired from walking and chose here. But seriously, avoid it. Go further south toward where the train stations are. Just about ~10 min of walk you are gonna find much...

The service was slow, but it wasn't full today. The Tea was great and the Dango I bought tasted okay.

But here's the Thing. When he wanted me to pay, I was the only one in the Restaurant left. He (I let you decide, if intentionally or not) wrote wrong prices on my order of 2 things which doubled the price. Beforehand, I remembered the Price of the Dango (980¥), but when the bill came, it was 1500¥. Same with the tea. Instead of 1960¥ he wanted me to pay over 3000¥. Despite looking european I speak japanese and told him what the Problem is. He immediately changed the pricing and apologized, but to do me like this felt really discriminating.

I can't...

Every time I go to Japan and stay in Kyoto, I visit this place. 7 times during 7 vacations in the last 4 years. I love this place! The nice and friendly old man who does everything by himself, the atmosphere, the food, everything. I always eat the green tea soba with deep fried tofu and never get enough. You have to wait quite a long time if there are a few people, but it's worth every minute! Hopefully I can visit this place next year again.

After took a long walk from Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, I had a rest and lunch here. I tried their hot Green tea soba noodles with dried soymilk skin (京のゆば茶そば) for ¥1380 and it was amazing! This is my first time trying green tea soba and I’m falling in love with it. The soba was savory and the dried soymilk skin was goes so well with it. I personally reccomend you to try greentea soba if you come to Kyoto!

Tasty food made by a sweet old man! There’s a one man band at this place who does everything from greet you to wait you and cook for you. The food has delicate tastes and seems much more fresher than what you’d find in downtown Kyoto or near Kyoto station. It’s in and amongst the suburbs near some of the temples you may visit on your stay. Well worth a visit on the way or way back from town.
